This weeks custom made garment was this pure white cotton office shirt with contrasting collar stand and inner cuffs. The garment takes both collar bones and cufflinks if needed. And can also be buttoned. Each short is cut and assembled with precise measurements to ensure a comfortable neck and a classic fit torso.

THE ESSENTIAL WHITE SHIRT | TAILOR & CHESS

A good shirt is one of the foundations of a man’s wardrobe.

Get the fit right and it can lift an entire outfit. Get it wrong and even the best jacket, trousers and shoes can suddenly look less considered.

This white shirt is one of a range of pieces I’m currently developing at Tailor & Chess, exploring what I believe a great everyday shirt should be: clean, masculine, comfortable and properly fitted.

The aim isn’t to reinvent the shirt. It’s to get the important things right — the collar, the proportions, the sleeve length, the shape through the body and the way the fabric sits when worn.

Something smart enough to wear beneath tailoring, but strong enough to stand on its own with a good pair of trousers.

Simple clothes become exceptional when the cut is right.

This is just the beginning of the range. More designs, fabrics and details are currently being developed in the studio.
