We specialise in hand crafted vintage-inspired clothing, bridal wear and fantastic ready to wear frocks in a fun boutique environment.

We sell a quirky mix of quality vintage inspired clothing from popular brands such as Collectif and Hell Bunny alongside stunning handmade dresses crafted from retro patterns and fabrics to complement the modern figure. We've also been foraging and collecting together a range of gorgeous vintage accessories and sourcing perfect gifts made by our favourite British designers. We offer made to measure commissions and also provide tailoring and alterations services.

It's been a bit of a quiet start to 2026 at Bella HQ as this absolute warrior in gold cowboy boots has just undergone a second hip replacement! All has gone really well and Suzanne is recovering gently at home.

Teresa is manning the shop and managing enquiries and appointments so do still pop in and get in touch - we need your support as much as ever. Hopefully we'll be back to full strength by mid March and look forward to a positive, pain-free year ahead :)

A massive thank you to everyone who popped in to see us on Sunday for SmedFest and got creative with freedom rosettes, badges and brooches.

It was so lovely to see all ages happily working with needle and thread (some for the first time) and stitching hopeful and positive messages. What a wonderful community we have and what a tonic to come together in a joyful way in these difficult times :)

Join us this Sunday 12-6 for SmedFest to celebrate all that is fabulous about our Smedley Street and wider Matlock community. There'll be live music, delicious food and drink as well as arts and crafts activities for all the family.

We'll be open for chilled Sunday browsing and you'll be able to make your own colourful rosettes, brooches or badges to wear (more details on our exciting collab with LEVEL to follow). We're also doing a special raffle for Ashgate Hospice with loads of top prizes to win.

A lovely recent commission from Royal Mail to recreate Victorian frockcoats for a current marketing campaign.

In the Victorian era the postmen wore eye-catching bright red uniforms which soon earned them the nickname 'robins'.

The tradition of sending Christmas cards also stemmed from this time. Robins gradually came to symbolise the postmen that delivered the cards and the robin became a favourite symbol of Christmas.

We'll be having a gentle gathering on Thursday 14 November to celebrate our mum's beautiful life. If you would like to join us to share memories and stories at The Fishpond in Matlock Bath, please RSVP and let us know.

A few people asked about dress code and we thought that as mum always made maximum effort, we should just try to look our best - smart, colourful and well accessorised :)

Thank you for bearing with us as we navigate this difficult time as a family and we'll be in touch as soon as we're ready to reopen the Bella doors.

Thank you so much to each and every person that donated to our recent crowdfunder. We're now able to be a little more transparent about why it was so needed and share the incredibly sad news that our beautiful mum passed away last week after a short battle with cancer.

We had been experiencing a strange duel existence of creating a beautiful new space which has kept us all positive, alongside caring for mum at home and laterly at Ashgate Hospice. Knowing that we could pay our bills and give ourselves a temporary reprieve from the pressures of being public facing helped us beyond measure.

If anyone is still thinking of making a contribution, any future donations will be passed on to the team at Ashgate Hospice who took such wonderful care of mum (known on the ward as Lady C and Queen Christine) and enabled her to be her most fabulous self: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/bella-on-the-move

Each Bella Figura commission from this point will also include a donation to Ashgate Hospice to continue their important work in supporting local families in desperate need and in memory of mum who wanted everyone to feel and look their best.

We are so nearly ready to welcome you through our new pink door - we've really missed your faces! Just a few final building works to go on Monday and Tuesday and hopefully we'll have essentials like safe step access and a flushing loo in place...
