June Hayes designs. Designing and making a wide range of textile art, inspired by living in Cornwall . Happy to take commissions.

A small business run from the heart of Mevagissey making and designing textiles inspired by Cornwall. I love beach combing and walking the coastal paths with my husband and our dogs and I always carry a notebook with me to jot down ideas. Another passion is gardening and beginning to use flowers in my designs.

What a beautiful start to the day lovely sun shine, our garden is looking better after Wednesdays evening rain so much fresher and brighter.

It’s been a busy sewing week finishing an order for Heather Jane & Co in St. Ives as well as a few orders for regular customers.
A couple of weeks ago a friend asked me if I could make them a sort of birthday card which could be kept and display preferably with a jam first theme. So this was the designed she liked best please to say a happy friend.
Thoughts then went to Christmas, sorry for mentioning the C word maybe this is something I could make as a little stocking filler come card.
What designs would you like to see for birthday, Christmas maybe anniversary.?

There will be a few birthday/best wishes ones available in Bowji Cornwall 2024 or message me for a design.

A cooler start to the morning so much better for walking our dogs. Not that I’m moaning about the lovely summer we have been having.
I have been busy sewing the last few weeks as it’s been a little too hot to be outside for long. Now it’s is a little cooler I think it will be a gardening day.
I have been busy making an order for Heather Jane & Co St. Ives hoping to post tomorrow.
Also making for my new shop Bowji Cornwall 2024. This recycle denim doorstop with four different sides is now available there.
Wishing you all a good day.

An exciting day for me yesterday, I moved all my stock into Bowji Cornwall 2024 which I have really been looking forward to.
Bowji is a lovely gallery open in July 2025. Full of amazing arts and crafts all created by Cornish based artist, including Flynn Allen who won this years Great Pottery Throw Down.
If you haven’t visit it’s a must. Pop in if you are in Mevagissey and meet Fiona who runs the gallery. If you pop down on a Saturday I will be manning the gallery I would love to meet you and have a chat. Look forward to seeing you.

13 years ago I decided to close my retail shop after running it for 11 years, I wanted time for me but what next?
I have always loved sewing and made cushions, doorstops bunting etc for my shop so I wanted to keep on sewing.
After visiting a local town I spotted a craft collective something I hadn’t heard of. A small shop in my home of Mevagissey was vacant so maybe I could start a collective there. The landlady Anthea was happy to rent to me along with two other ladies who were very interested in the idea. The Roberts gallery was born. With just the 3 of us we decorated and put units in and on the 1st of September our little gallery opened. We recruited a few people over the next couple of years with the aim to have at least 7 artists so we could all work one day a week manning the gallery. Unfortunately the original two ladies left after a few years due to family commitments. I took over most of the running of the gallery with all that entails we now we have over 20 artists it has become too much for me to manage.
This year I have decided to leave the gallery after running and maintaining it for 13 years. I am very proud of what I have achieved and given a lot of small Cornish artists the chance to start their own business.
I have enjoyed my time in the galley and have met many lovely and talented people.
Now moving onto my next adventure. I have become friends with a lovely lady Fiona who opened Bowji Cornwall in 2025. A lovely gallery selling art created by Cornish artists, she has kindly asked me to join her which I’m doing at the beginning of August, still be able to pop into Roberts as it is only a door away. I shall be working one day a week mainly on a Saturday, so if you are passing by please pop in and say hi at

Another day, another visit to this time Porthleven. A fabulous day out. We met Charlotte of who was manning the shop and had a lovely chat while I stocked up my shelves with spec cases and coin purses. Such a beautiful day it was a shame not to take advantage of the sunshine. Lots of lovely shops to visit and a sit on the harbour wall with an ice cream was a must.
Which &co is next on our list to visit. ?

Lucky to have a few days aways on Dorset/Hampshire border.
The weather didn’t stop us going out and about a few dark clouds and dodging rain. A trip into the New Forest was a must love seeing all the ponies. Also a walk around Mudeford spit and stopped Charmouth unfortunately no fossils found. Great site lots of open spaces and a nice walk for the dogs.
