Alternatives used to be a Mobile Tailoring & Consultation Service that collected and delivered to your location within 25 miles of Stony Stratford. I provide bespoke alteration services from shortening trousers, jeans, dresses and skirts to taking in or letting out on garments without a side zip. Please note, I come to you... I can not serve customers in Magdalen Close.

I broke my hip
when I fell off my bicycle in November . I have had to retire and sell my sewing machines and van. Does anyone know college course on 'style 'as I would like to go to college to study it. I did a course on colour 12 years ago and would like to expand my knowledge. If customers would like to ask someone about alterations I would always be happy to help and I may be able to introduce you to another Alteration specialist.. [email protected]

Lydia Jones - Alternatives – Retiring 1989-30.3.2019

To all customers,

Thank you for using my Alternatives services during the last 29 years. I wanted to inform you that I will no longer be offering a clothing alteration and repair service after 28th March 2019. I will be 70 years in 2019 and consider myself to be very privileged to have been able to offer customers a tailoring service during my working lifetime.

The Future

In my retirement I would like to offer clients a Wardrobe Management Consultancy Service which could include:
- Personal shopping assistance (with possible colour analysis)
- Sorting and clearing existing wardrobe (customers moving or downsizing who may need help in deciding how many of their clothes will be useful the future.)
- With possible introduction to other tailors if alterations or repairs are required. NB: these will not be recommendations, only introductions

Well done M&S. At 65 years I think I am allowed to up grade to size 16. I needed new jeans .... they have Straights,Bootcut and Jeggings to choose from in three lengths in black, blue , beige colours. They have a wide selection of tops in all colours which can be mixed and matched. The assistants in the ground floor Ladies fashion department changing rooms helped to quickly find a new size or length. It was a personal service with a genuine customer focus in enabling one to concentrate on getting the perfect outfit with their very varied stock. Lydia Jones

I started sewing cross stitch and blanket stitch when I was seven at Umtali Convent, Southern Rhodesia. It was love at first stitch. Then I heard from my Grandma Christina Mackenzie Knight that my Great Great Grandfather Duncan Mackenzie, of 45 Bac ,Isle of Lewis was the tailor in Stornaway in the 19 th century. Well , I only found out the where and when in 2001 when I visited cousin Angusina Mackenzie (now sadly departed). Sewing rocks !!!!!!
