You may have noticed that we have been forced to close the unit at times this year as we try to negotiate a serious shift in the second-hand clothing market.
The international second-hand clothing market is in sharp decline due to factors like oversupply, fast fashion alternatives, Brexit and changing consumer demand. Higher exchange rates and the cost of import and export are also driving prices down.
International buyers and resellers are now more selective, only certain types, conditions, and categories of clothing are acceptable for export.

Because of this decline, the quality bar for what is accepted and processed must be raised. We must check items at the door and can only take items that meet a strict criteria. Quality standards are stricter than before due to market decline and to continue we must adapt

WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT
✔️ Clothing,Shoes & Handbags- clean and dry in good, wearable condition, Free from odours, smells and pet hairs
TO CONTINUE TRADING WE MUST REJECT
❌ Damaged – ripped, torn, items with broken zips, missing buttons (unless high-value brand worth repair)
❌ Heavily stained or faded – Including items that have been in long term storage or left in damp conditions
❌ Outdated fashion – (e.g., outdated suits,)
❌ Low-quality fast fashion – thin fabrics, poor stitching, excessive wear
❌ Underwear, socks, swimwear and sleepwear including dressing gowns and pyjamas (unless new with tags)

The second-hand clothing market once gave almost all clothing a second life. Today, only select items still carry value and this reality must guide both our quality checks and the prices offered.

We remain grateful to the community for the support and will continue to do our best to ensure that quality clothing finds new homes or is directed away from landfill via other means.
