🎩 Hat Season is Here, Ladies! 👒

Weddings, races, garden parties—it’s the time of year when every outfit deserves a show-stopping hat. And who better to crown your look than East Lothian’s own Brenda Naples Millinery ?

From her studio at Cockenzie House, Brenda crafts wearable works of art. Think sinamay swirls in blush pink adorned with red feather flowers, dramatic crinoline designs edged with gold braid, and delicate hummingbirds feeding from feather peonies.

Each piece is handcrafted, with details like handmade silk roses—every petal individually cut, dyed, and shaped. Whether you’re seeking timeless elegance or a bold statement, Brenda’s creations are as unique as you are.

So, if you’re ready to turn heads at your next event, visit Brenda Naples Millinery and find the perfect hat to top off your ensemble.

Do you know the history of the barn at Cockenzie House?

The orange-washed barn is known as the Hanseatic Barn. Creating the west side of the cobbled courtyard, the two-storeyed, pan-tiled barn with corbie-stepped gables, is the oldest part of the house and was used to store salt, silks and other goods. Some of it would be brought up to the barn from the original natural harbour. The name indicates that there were likely connections with the Hanseatic League although little is recorded about this. Starting in 13th-century Germany, the Hanseatic League dominated sea routes and trade in the North and Baltic Seas. By the time the main house was built in 1683 the league was in decline. The name may therefore be informal. It was damaged by fire in the 1970s and has been much altered internally.
