On holiday this week on the Isle of Lewis and knitting up samples for the .
The weather has been pretty decent for an October trip in Scotland, maybe there is actually a little magic in this woolly unicorn 🦄

My first chunky knit of the season.

As much as I love summer, I have to admit it’s nice to get back to autumnal mornings and cosying beneath a big scarf. 🌬🍂🧣

Very pleased with myself; from just one ball of gorgeous (rather expensive) hand painted Peruvian wool, I managed to squeeze out a hat and a matching cowl. Both now listed on Etsy. I only bought one ball of wool (did I mention it was expensive) but if I think it’s a winner I will stock up.
This is my own pattern by the way, also listed on Etsy for download or free to anyone who is a Musselburgh Yarn Bomber. 😉

My little business is doing well. Notching up the sales, enjoying the growing momentum and loving making new friends along the way.

I’d say 1/4 of sales have been commissions “I’d like that but can you do it in yellow” type thing. I really enjoy commissions because you know someone is getting exactly what they want. I took pictures today of a couple of cowls I knitted this week. The cowls look great but I’m not happy with the pictures. It was just so dull today! I hadn’t planned to knit cowls (snoods).....but then I saw this really nice yarn sold locally and knew the colours would go well with the beanies. Both the hat and cowl are super soft, über cosy and available to anyone local to Musselburgh who needs a last minute present. £30 for a hat, £35 for a cowl. Happy to post further afield but you wouldn’t receive before Monday. 🎁

There is a good chance that ‘on the side’ will me featured in a magazine in January which is terribly exciting. Will post more info soon. Thanks to Ewan for braving the freezing drizzle this morning in order take some photos of me for the article. It was most definitely a woolly hat kind of morning!

I’ve always made stuff “on the side”. I’ve been encouraged for years by friends to start selling and a few weeks ago I decided to go for it. Started an Instagram page, feverishly built stock and became an Etsy seller. Wasn’t so scary after all! Next step is to advertise and I figure Facebook is not a bad place to start.

I have hundreds of things I’d like to make but I am limiting myself at the moment to chunky knit hats and Harris Tweed snoods. Most of the stock is on Etsy (that’s a job in itself keeping photos up to date) but more than happy to do commissions, PM me if you want more info.
