🍂 WE’VE STOPPED FLIRTING WITH AUTUMN. WE’RE FULLY COMMITTED NOW. 🍂

The rails have turned, the layers are out and Wardrobe at The Cross is now in full Autumn/Winter mode. And frankly, Hil is delighted about it.

For this reel she’s gone head to toe new season, starting with the fabulous Cruz top from Nobody’s Child.

That cowl neck is doing very good things. It drapes beautifully, feels properly grown up and gives you that slightly dressed up look without actually requiring much effort.

A word on fit, because you know we like to tell you how things actually fit.

Hil is wearing the 12 here. It is a neat fit, particularly across the b***s, so if you’re blessed in that department, you may want to consider sizing up.

She’s paired it with the Moda snaffle belt in Oak, made from pure Italian leather. A really good belt can completely pull an outfit together, and this warm oak shade is going to work VERY hard in an autumn wardrobe.

And on the bottom, it’s the Toxik Rowan jeans in Soft Grey.

Hil is wearing the 38, which Toxik calls a 10. Hil would call it much more of an 11 to 12. Because sometimes the label says one thing and your actual body says something rather different, and we’re much more interested in the latter.

And a little love for Nobody’s Child, too. As a certified B Corp, it’s a brand that takes its wider social and environmental responsibilities seriously, including how its clothes are made and its approach to reducing waste and unnecessary production.

The shop is back open from 11 today, although you may spot Hil considerably earlier than that because there is a mountain of online parcels requiring her attention. 📦

So come in, have a shufty and get your hands on the new season properly. Autumn/Winter has ARRIVED, and there is so much gorgeousness on those rails.

We’re proudly female owned, fiercely independent and big believers in helping women find clothes that make them feel like themselves.

And 15p from every online order goes to Shop4Neston, supporting the community that supports us.

Autumn, you may enter. We’re ready for you. 🍂

We often talk about the market traders but we must mention the market staff too, they start at 6.00am on a Friday to get everything set up, they sort out the logistics etc.. during the day, and they're here after the traders have gone to clear away. Without James and his market assistant Mike, plus the casual market staff Colette, Jack & Alannah, we wouldnt have the market, so thank you!

I fell to the floor when I got the call to say Dad had attempted su***de. I was by his bedside when his heart stopped beating.

He was 55.

I loved him fiercely, we all did, and still do; just now from afar.

Dad’s death turned my world upside down and I knew that things would never be the same again.

I yearned for the person that I used to be and questioned why this heartbreak had happened to my beautiful little family.

During Dad’s inquest, I felt that I had learned far too much about su***de to walk away, I was invested. I felt an all-consuming urge to do something and I knew I had two options:

1) Bang the drum and hope that somebody, somewhere would eventually listen.

2) Do it myself.

I chose the latter.

I quit my job, quit unhelpful friendships, quit my abusive relationship, quit anything and everything that wasn’t serving me well. I wasn’t willing to spend one more day living a life that wasn’t good enough for me. I picked the parts of myself that I wanted to take forward and left the rest behind. I stopped yearning for the person I was before and decided to build myself back as the person I wanted to be, the person my family deserved, and ultimately the person that could build this service that I had dreamt up.

On 23rd February 2019, we opened The Martin Gallier Project, the UK’s first and only su***de prevention, intervention and postvention charity. A non-clinical space, offering immediate access to life-saving su***de interventions on the high street, with no waiting list, no criteria, and no barriers to access. My mission was to make su***de support as accessible and timely as buying a coffee, so that nobody had to face su***de crisis alone and no family had to navigate the devastation of su***de loss without appropriate compassion and support.

To date, The Martin Gallier Project has completed over 67,000 life-saving su***de interventions and counting; their stories continue, and so does ours. I’m proud of every single one of them, and I’m sure my Dad would be too.

And I suppose that’s the simplest way I can explain why, when I say I get it, I really do.
