That’s the Open Studios finished for another year!

It’s been a wonderful three days. Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit us. It’s been so lovely to see familiar faces and meet new ones too. So many great conversations, including swapping notes with other weavers!

Well done to everyone who had a turn of weaving on Jimmy’s Thomas Kennedy loom, including the children 🤗 several conquered their fear of weaving on the big loom and it was great to see the satisfaction on people’s faces when they saw what was achieved 🥰
We will draw names from the hat soon and find the winner of this years Open Studios blanket so keep checking for that post.
Thank you to everyone for their support, it means a lot to us.
Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone involved in Open Studios North Fife this year. It takes a great team to make it all happen, from coordinating the artists, compiling the brochure, managing the website, putting up posters and banners and much more! We are so grateful to you all 👏

Here’s the full article from the Sunday National about tonight’s film at The Cameo in Edinburgh.

Tickets are still available from www.folkcinemas.com and www.picturehouses.com/cinema/the-cameo as well as on the door. The film starts promptly at 6.15pm and there is a bar so you can get there early and mingle.

At Newburgh Handloom Weavers we try to use every little piece of tweed that we make. Larger off-cuts are made into purses and bags, smaller pieces into keyrings and lavender pouches, then all the smaller pieces are made into buttons. As our tweed is 100% wool, the cuttings can then be added to the compost bin.

Come and see these gorgeous buttons at Open Studios North Fife Saturday 2nd to Monday 4th May! Erika, Jeanie and Izzy had a lovely time making these ready for the Open studios this weekend 🤗

How are you planning to get to Newburgh?

At the moment, driving is the easiest option for most, and we’ve not (yet) got our train station open…

Have you thought about getting to us by bus? We highly recommend trying the new electric buses by Ember which can connect you from most of the main towns and cities throughout Scotland! The nearest stop to Newburgh is Bridge of Earn where you can change to a Stagecoach No. 65 and be in Newburgh in under 25 minutes. And if you are lucky enough to have a bus pass, it will be completely free!

At present, Perth is the best train station to get the bus from as although Ladybank and Cupar are not far away, the bus journey is definitely on the more ‘scenic’ roads…

However you get to us, we look forward to seeing you 🤗

Do watch the other videos on the Open Studios Facebook and Instagram pages. It’s a lovely way to find out a bit more about each of the artists and makers who are taking part. As Cally Nurse says in her video, visiting the Open Studios really is a very special and unique experience and it means such a lot to each studio you visit. Enjoy!

It’s less than a week until we open our doors once again for Open Studios North Fife !

Studios and makers spaces all around north Fife will be open for three days from 2nd to 4th May with the chance to meet the artists and makers as well as the chance to see their creative environment.

We will be inviting visitors to our shed to have a go at weaving on one of our Thomas Kennedy handlooms. Everyone who has a turn of weaving will be entered into a prize draw and one lucky weaver will win the finished blanket!

A little bit more information about the evening so you know how it will go. It’s an 18.15 start and Jimmy and Erika are the trailer! We’ll sing some traditional songs to start the evening then we can relax and watch the film 😅
Afterwards there will be a discussion led by Steve Byrne. We can’t deny that words like ‘world premiere’ and ‘protégé’ are a little daunting but we hope you will join us for what will be a lovely evening. We hope to see you on May 1st! 🤗
