🌱 Natural Dye Workshop — Sunday 7th June - 10am-4pm

We’re hosting a natural dye day at Thimble with Ffion Taverner of Hael Natural Colour — a colour farmer growing dye plants organically on her farm just outside Narberth in Pembrokeshire.

Ffion will show you how a handful of cultivated plants — African Marigolds, Coreopsis, Madder, Weld and more — can produce an extraordinary range of colour through mordanting and modifying. Perfect if you grow dye plants or are curious about what your garden could produce.

You’ll go home with a swatch book full of colourfast naturally dyed fabric and the confidence to start experimenting at home.

I've been sewing some samples for the upcoming shirt making course I'll be teaching in May and I love testing corners of the studio.
Now the light generously stream through the windows, spreading my project across the desk, a cup of tea (I will probably end up drinking it cold) and hours of uninterrupted sewing...

🍂 October in the Studio 🧵
October has been such a joyful month in the studio, and I’m finally finding a moment to share what we’ve been up to!

✨ Beginner Dressmaking weekend
Our October beginners tackled the wrap top from Peppermint magazine — not exactly an easy sew! With darts, set-in sleeves, and miles of hemming, everyone did brilliantly. By the end of the workshop, they all went home with their very first finished garment — hurrah!

✨ Copy Your Wardrobe

One of my favourite classes to run, October’s Copy Your Wardrobe was full of clever recreations. Katy’s crisp white hoodie got a dazzling navy-and-pink makeover, Emily recreated a beautiful Toast jumpsuit, and Mai nailed a perfect copy of her cosy stretch top obsession. Three of the participants even came from North Wales and London — turning the weekend into a little sewing staycation. We love it when you visit!

✨ Freerangers Fridays
Our Freerangers Fridays saw a steady stream of sewing shenanigans! I wish I could show you the bucket hat after its full refit, but honestly… we had to immortalise the Paddington Bear look, which I sport rather well!

✨ Looking Back
On a personal level, October was full of celebrating small wins. I even managed a little getaway sans Noah — and had my first 10-hour stretch of sleep in over two years. I’m still daydreaming about it!

🌞 Back from staycation… and the Autumn calendar is nearly full!

We had a proper mix of chaos and fun over the break — hosting my mum, surviving a terrifying sailing course, and canoeing down the Wye Valley. Now I’m home, catching my breath, and looking at the studio calendar… wow. You lot have been busy!

🎉 Student Spotlight: Joni's Fitting Showdown!

From toile chaos ➡️ to perfectly fitted blouse, Joni’s been on a mission on our Freerager Friday sessions to develop her fitting skills.

She tackled:
✅ Full bust adjustments
✅ Extra darts for shapeliness
✅ Sneaky back tweaks
✅ A pattern that looked like it had seen things 😅

She's probably sewing the finished version as we speak and I can't wait to see it!

Oh—and this isn’t her first rodeo. Back in March, she attended our fitting course and brought a pattern that was 80% ambition, 20% structural chaos. We wrangled it into shape together, and the finished jacket? GORGEOUS. 💫

I've only got 4 spaces left for my Beginners Sewing Class 🧵 Join me and a group of like-minded folk on Saturday 15th February and learn to sew in just one day!

I designed this class with the ultimate newbie in mind but I've found that self-taught students always get a lot of out of it too! We'll start with the basics of using your sewing machine in the morning, and by the end of the class you'll have your very own drawstring bag to take home and use.

I'm kicking off 2025 with some plans I had for 2024! Who else is picking things where they left them off? 🥰
Yesterday, after a week-long house move back to Ceredigion I headed to Carmarthen library (we don't have any internet yet) and ordered a bunch of flyers. I haven't done that in a long time!
I had imagined I would be spending my maternity leave going around various cafes, venues, shops, baby in the pram and flyers at the ready to slowly tell people about our AMAZING DRESSMAKING STUDIO in Newcastle Emlyn...
'
Of course, life had a very different plan and none of this was possible in 2024 (most of you would probably know about the fire, the forced move to a different county... )
But you know what, it's never too late to re-start. To pick up the plan and run with it.
I'm waiting for these to arrive and i'll get the buggy out.
Where should I drop some off? Do you know some good spot I might overlook?
