Burn out stole so much from me. I lost years. My mental health and self confidence plummeted . Anxiety took hold and fatigue made day to day living seem like the hardest thing in the world. It got very scary for a while.
After going part time for a year, I was well enough to return to work.
But three years on, I still struggle with fatigue and anxiety.
CBT has been a game changer for me.
Recommended to me as a coping mechanism for perimenopause. It has unlocked a lot of answers which in hindsight seem obvious.
I love my job, and it has always been a priority. Add the pressure of being the only wage earner to support a house and two children and it's easy to get tunnel vision.
Work and the kids were the most important things.
Housework fell to the wayside and became an endless pressure I could never get on top of. The cooking and food shopping too. Just an endless cycle I felt I was failing at because I hadn't any energy left in the tank to take it on. I felt crappy. And it was a vicious cycle.
Realistic scheduling in of all the task and the pleasures has helped me to turn things around. I cannot recommend CBT highly enough to anyone struggling with overwhelm, anxiety or fatigue. Or all three!
I talk about this here, not because I need or want sympathy, but because I hope that maybe even one self employed person, who is over stretching themselves, and not taking enough time out, will see this and take away something which helps them.
Prevention is the best cure and all that.
Take care of yourselves. You're the most important asset your business has.
