Goodbye from us...

The day we’ve all been dreading is looming, and we just wanted to say a final goodbye before we close our doors for the last time at 4pm tomorrow.

The last few months have been so hard for all the staff, and especially the Ridgway family.

But we’d like to thank all of the familiar faces and loyal customers who came to see us one last time. The ones who travelled here just to wish us well in the future and bring us treats to get us through the day. The ones who wanted to just buy one more pair of shoes from their favourite shop, and the ones who came for one last natter with our wonderful team of staff. We have been utterly overwhelmed with the love and support from you all and we will miss you all immensely ♥️

We are OPEN, but are unable to offer the service we normally would.

Opening ours are 10-4.30pm, with the queue closing at 4pm to allow us 30 minutes to serve those customers.

We are no longer trading as Ridgways Shoes, instead we are being run by the insolvency company Lameys. You will however see the familiar faces of our Ridgways Staff, who are now working self employed to provide the best service we possibly can under the restraints and circumstances we are in.

All purchases made in our closing down sale will be non returnable under any circumstances. Any manufacturing faults will have to be dealt with by the manufacturer.

We are unable to measure and fit shoes, as no contact is prohibited under government guidelines. We will however guide you in measuring and fitting yourself if you wish to do so.

Socks must be worn at all times when trying on shoes and sandals, we do have disposable pop socks if necessary.

The entrance is now located in our men’s departed. (The doors closest to Barnado’s). You will find Mr Ridgway or one of our managers at the front of the shop managing the queue and briefing customers on the changes. The ladies doors, opposite the till are now being used as an exit only.

Upon entering you will be asked to sanitise and refrain from touching stock as much as possible unless you’d like to try it on. You will be assigned a member of staff, who will be able to help you find what you are looking for and who will then be able to sanitise any stock handled to ensure a clean environment for our customers and our staff.

We are only able to accept card transactions.

We hope you appreciate that things are a little different right now, and that we are trying our best to offer the best service we possibly can, whilst also providing a safe environment for everybody 💙

It is with great sadness that I can finally confirm that Ridgways Shoes will be closing its doors for good. Matt Ridgway, myself and some of my lovely colleagues are currently getting the shop ready to re-open for a stock clearance, but unfortunately I can not confirm a specific opening date at this time.

We are having to adapt how we work and change the service we offer to meet the government rules and regulations for trading whilst still dealing with the Covid-19 situation. This means our traditional hands on service will unfortunately not be allowed, but please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to serve our loyal customers to the best of our ability for one last time.

I will post a further update with regards to an opening date and our procedure as soon as I can, but for now I would just like to thank all of our wonderful customers that have shopped with us for so many years and to everyone who has posted lovely messages about their memories of shopping with us. It is truly heartwarming to hear 💙

Our store in Newton Abbot is looking to recruit a Full Time Sales Advisor, for 35 hours a week over 5 out of 7 days. (This includes working every Saturday unless booked off for holiday/time owed etc)

Ridgway's Shoes is a family run independent shoe shop. Stocking dozens of top brands, including Clarks, Skechers, Fly London, Ruby Shoo and Rieker. With three departments and approximately 16 fully trained staff, it is not only one of the biggest but one of the best places in the area to get quality shoes.

Job Role:

At Ridgways there is a diverse range of tasks and duties, and within the average working day you can go from helping customers find and fit footwear, to dressing window and shop displays, and more in between. Some of the main responsibilities are;

Providing superior levels of customer service, in assisting customers to find the right product in the right size for the right activities.
Actively working with customers, both adult and children, in measuring, fitting and selling shoes.
Dressing window and in-store displays clearly and to a high standard.
Answering the store phone professionally, processing telephone transactions and providing general customer advice.
Processing transactions at the cash desk.
Receiving, processing and unpacking deliveries.
Helping to control stock room organisation.
Follow the store policies and guidelines to prevent loss and ensure safety within the store.
Working well in the team and actively supporting your colleagues.
Skills

Ridgways has a great team dynamic and we would like applicants to be social, optimistic, open, driven and above all a team player. We offer full in-house training so trade specific skills will be acquired on the job. Your personal qualities should also include:
