Well… where do I start with this one.
As it was our first ever British Superbike Championship weekend, we knew there was going to be a lot to learn and plenty of new challenges to face.
Friday FP1 and FP2 started great, and we got up to speed straight away.
Qualifying went really well too, with a new PB set, which left us feeling confident heading into Heat Race 1.
Unfortunately, this is where things started to change. Mid-race the bike cut out and wouldn’t restart 🤦♂️ (ECU relay issue).
This left us starting the LCQ right at the back of the grid, so we had plenty of work to do.
Considering the grid position, we had a decent race and came home in P11, which meant we qualified for the main race.
The main race was a total learning curve for the whole team, as the start procedure is completely different to anything we’ve done before.
Unfortunately, there was a red flag on the warm-up lap, which led to us being held on the grid for several minutes before a restart. Then, on the warm-up lap for the restart, the heavens briefly opened and caused another red flag.
We were held in pit lane and, because we had no spare tyre warmers with us, we made the incorrect decision to switch to wets — but then had no chance to change again.
So, back to the grid for a second restart, and unfortunately on the first lap we developed a traction control issue and the bike wouldn’t accelerate correctly, ultimately forcing me to retire 🤦♂️
Absolutely gutted, but overall there are loads of positives to take from the weekend, especially being live on TNT sports 😂and we’ll be back stronger 💪
Once again massive thanks to my sponsors and helpers
