Freshly steamed and ready for the big day ✨👰

We’ve had some truly spectacular gowns through the studio this year, and this beauty is no exception. With a full skirt and dramatic train, proper preparation is key to keeping your dress looking flawless from the moment you step into it.

Here are our top tips for storing and preparing your wedding dress before the big day:

🤍 Hang it properly
Always hang your gown using the internal hanging loops (not the shoulder straps) to prevent stretching and keep the bodice in perfect shape.

🤍 Choose the right spot
Store your dress in a cool, dry room away from direct sunlight, pets, and curious little hands.

🤍 Steam close to the wedding day
Have your gown professionally steamed 1–2 days before the wedding for the freshest finish.

🤍 Remove the cover after steaming
Allow your dress to hang freely, out of the storage bag to avoid creasing before the day.

🤍 Give the train room
If your dress has a long train, make sure it has enough space to drape naturally without being crumpled.

🤍 Dress last
Hair and makeup first, then step into your gown to avoid accidental marks or creases.

🤍 Use a crochet hook for buttons
A small crochet hook is a bridal lifesaver when nerves are running high! Hook the elastic loops and gently pull them over each button - much quicker and easier, especially for gowns with dozens of tiny buttons.

🤍 Keep hands clean
Ask anyone helping you dress to wash their hands before touching the gown.

🤍 Allow extra time
Getting into your dress can take longer than expected, so set aside plenty of time for a calm and stress-free morning.

A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring your dress looks as breathtaking as the moment you first fell in love with it. 💍✨

A wardrobe refresh just for me! This gorgeous scrap of soft, vintage Indian cotton has been lounging in my fabric stash for literally decades, waiting for its moment to shine - and today was the day!

Monday’s usually an admin day but (miraculously) I had a couple of hours to spare, so I whipped up a simple, super comfy, pair of cropped trousers with a pleated front and, of course, pockets! 🙌🏼

Jane came to us last year in full panic mode. As Mother of the Groom, she hated dresses and anything that felt too “dressed up.” Everything she’d tried on felt overdone, too structured, too much lace, just not her at all. Honestly? We hear this all the time… and we completely understand.

So we sat down, talked through some ideas, and sent her off to in Shrewsbury to choose a fabric she truly loved. She picked a beautiful, soft crepe, structured enough to hold the shape of that gorgeous full skirt, but still effortless and comfortable.

Safe to say, Jane CAN do dresses, she just needed the right one!

Thanks Jane, for sharing this rare photo of you in a fancy frock, you looked beautiful!

Oh…and for those of you wondering, yes, it has pockets!

When I say slow fashion, I truly mean VERY slow. Most of our work is finished by hand, no high-tech machines, no loud factories, just careful, quiet stitching, much like my grandmother did a century ago 🪡🧵✂️

A special birthday make for a little girl who knows exactly what she wants! “Pink sparkles with a very, VERY long train!” ✨

We brought her idea to life in shimmering sequin spandex, lined with rich magenta satin and finished with gold binding. A soft tulle collar and gold star ties add the final touch.

Hopefully as magical as she imagined! 💖

This week I’m starting work on a new bespoke prom outfit, and while I can’t share it just yet, I thought I’d look back and share one of my previous prom creations instead. I’ve always loved working on pieces that step a little outside the box, something with personality.

It’s funny revisiting my portfolio… I’ve spent so much time doubting my work, often feeling that it’s never quite good enough. But when I come back to these pieces years later with fresh eyes, I catch myself thinking, “Wow… I actually made that!”

That feeling is a big part of why I started and our Bitch & Stitch Sewing Social. It turns out I’m far from alone - so many creatives quietly wrestle with imposter syndrome. And there’s something really special about sharing that, supporting each other, and celebrating what we create along the way! 💛

A little moment of magic in the aisle ❤️

Here she is, stealing the limelight wearing our favourite bespoke Flower Girl dress.

The bodice is crafted from luxurious Duchess satin, finished with a delicate lace overlay, while the statement bow adds a nice finishing detail.

The skirt is built with a layer of structured net for shape and softened with layer upon layer of airy tulle. It’s fully lined to keep everything smooth and (most importantly) itch-free!

This is officially the biggest gown we’ve ever worked on - and what a beauty it is! From the structured, heavily b***d bodice to that incredible sweeping train.

For this alteration, we:
• Adjusted the fit of the b***d bodice for comfort & support
• Shortened the front of the dress for ease of movement
• Carefully tapered the shape out into that stunning, full train

Our customer wanted to keep the full length of the train (and we don’t blame her!), so we added discreet inner attachments to create a French bustle, making it easy to manage for evening dancing without losing any of that dramatic elegance.

A true showstopper! 💫

Swipe to the end to see the less glamorous side….me under the dress pretending it’s completely normal! We gotta be friends girls! 💁🏼‍♀️
