“A special mention must go to Jonni Angel Designs for creating the
costumes for Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion. These were brilliant and really
helped to bring the characters to life.” 😇😇😇

“The principals’ costumes, designed and made by Jonni Angel Designs, were a particular highlight. Each design was instantly recognisable yet clearly crafted with care and attention to detail. Dorothy’s iconic blue gingham dress captured the character’s innocence perfectly, while Scarecrow’s textured, rustic styling and Tinman’s polished, yet rusting, metallic finish both supported characterisation as much as performance did. The Lion’s costume balanced visual impact with practicality, allowing for expressive movement while maintaining a strong silhouette. I loved the long hair styled as his mane.
Beyond aesthetics, these costumes functioned exceptionally well in performance. They allowed freedom of movement, supported physical character choices, and held up under the demands of choreography and staging” 😇🤩😇

We’re off to see the Wizard! And a whole lot more…

“Special mentions go to the costumes for the four key players which were designed and made by the Tinman himself (Jonni Angel Designs). These were finished to an exceptional standard and would not have looked out of place in a professional production.” 😇

In recent years, and thanks largely to the popularity of its spin-off cousin Wicked, it feels like the whole world has contracted Oz-mania. So, I was very much looking forward to this trip to Northwich to revisit the original tale. I also have fond memories of playing the cowardly lion in my final y...

Making these Wizard of Oz costumes has meant working with a few very different materials - foam, fur, straw… this is EVA foam, which is providing the structure needed for my Tinman costume. But figuring out the pieces is not easy as there isn’t a pattern I can use! So lots of experimenting going on - I can confirm it’s looking good though! 😇 🌈👠👠

A cowardly paw - he’s too shy to show the rest of himself just yet 😜 very pleased with this as I made the pattern myself just from an outline of Greg’s hand (Greg is playing our Cowardly Lion) (see comments section for a picture of the pattern!) 😇🌈👠👠

Oh look - is that me?!? 👠👠🌈😇

⏰ 3 WEEKS TO GO…
You know what that means…
It’s time to meet another member of our cast! 🌈

✨ Meet Jonni ✨
The Tin Man 🤖❤️

This will be Jonni’s second production with Mid Cheshire Musical Theatre Company, after charming audiences as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast last year.

Originally from Liverpool, Jonni works as an Occupational Therapist and brings with him a wealth of theatrical experience. While living in Liverpool, he was a proud member of Birkenhead Operatic Society Trust for 15 years, performing in major roles including Cornelius in Hello, Dolly! and Billy in Anything Goes at the Liverpool Empire Theatre.
He has also appeared as Malcolm in the musical version of The Full Monty and Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors.

As well as his work as an Occupational Therapist, Jonni is a talented designer and maker of special-occasion wear and costumes. For this production, he has loved creating costumes for Dorothy, Scarecrow, Lion, and even his own Tin Man costume—bringing Oz to life both on and off the stage. You can see a few little sneak peaks over at Jonni Angel Designs.

Jonni is incredibly excited to give you a heartfelt performance as the Tin Man, and would like to thank his amazing husband and friends for their continued love and support. 💛

I have been very busy rehearsing and making costumes for Wizard of Oz which is coming up in just 3 weeks! I will be posting a few pictures over the next few weeks of the costumes - starting with Dorothy! This is of course the iconic blue gingham. I have designed this based on early 1900s girls outfits. An underdress with a Pinafore. It’s kind of a cross between Dorothy and Alice in Wonderland and looks great on Sindney. There may be a few surprises with this costume as we move through the show 😜😇🤫
