When we think about roses, the main focus is on flowers. But roses are not only about flowers, they are also about thorns.

If you wish to make a very realistic rose with thorns, you can follow a mini tutorial I have released earlier for my Flora Fan club members. In case you are not a member, you will be able to purchase this video separately.

This month we are working on roses, well known as well as new ones.

One of the essential roses to start your journey with is the simple rose. I am using the word simple in the botanical sense here. A simple rose in botany is the one with 5 petals.
However, we as flower makers know how to turn a simple 5 petal rose into not-so-simple gorgeous accessory.
First, think about the materials. From plain cottons to silk satins, velvet, denim, linen and leather there is a vast range of very different materials you can use here. Every time you will get a very different look for your simple not-so-simple rose.
Second, choose your centre. You can opt for a realistic one with natural colours and small stamens. Or, you can go all out and pick crystals, large metallic stamens, pearls etc.
Third, decide on the finish for your flower. Will it be a small corsage? A luxury bridal choker or a pair of shoe brooches? Or perhaps, a whole headpiece with several roses and buds? The sky is the limit here.
