A newly discovered rare Arthur Wood 7” Freedom Bowl design to add to my burgeoning collection of Handkerchief vases.

This example is totally hand painted & has the pattern number 4170 stamped in Gold on the outside base & dated sometime after 1954 & is unknown whether it preceded Chance’s first attempts at producing handkerchief vases from a square glass blank between 1955 - 1956.

If you are wondering why these are published on a Chance Glass page it is because these vases were made in ceramic & are identical in size & shape to Chance’s 7” model & is thought to have used an actual Chance 7” Handkerchief Mould, the base diameter however, is slightly larger on the Freedom bowls but this could be perhaps, down to the complete difference in materials & the complex manufacturing processes used between the two companies.

They are the first 7” vase to be mentioned by David P. Encill in his Introduction to Handkerchief Vases - Section 7. p96 in his Chance Additions - Volume 2 sequel to Chance Expressions which are essential reading for all Chance collectors.
