The Sherwood Seamstress

The Sherwood Seamstress I am a sewer based in Nottingham I have always loved clothes, from when I was tiny. I loved dressing up from the word go. That was it. So many possibilities!

I taught myself to sew as a small child after meeting a seamstress called Madame Di Bono. She was making a first holy communion dress for me and when I went for a fitting, she very quickly knocked up an outfit for my teddy bear. I knew I wanted a piece of the action. After that, I begged some fabric from my mother and made a bikini, followed by a tutu (tip: add some frills to the bottom of a vest)

. I considered those the basics of a good wardrobe. In my teens I got into vintage clothing, which provided a good education in repairing and altering. Along the way I did a degree in Fashion/Textiles and have used my design skills in various different ways since, both as freelance, in my own design business and in teaching. Nowadays, I make my own clothes or browse the charity shops for things to refashion. I will be sharing my sewing projects on this page.
