Last May, we posted an update on our findings from our soil material burying experiment.

From the results of that first round, we wanted to dive deeper and buried the following 11 products within our range:

🔹Polyester (used as a control)
🔹Cotton Linen ribbon
🔹Tencel ribbon
🔹Tencel cord
🔹Cotton ribbon (50/50 conventional/recycled)
🔹Cotton (100% recycled)
🔹Paper ribbon (Herringbone)
🔹Paper cord (Knitted)
🔹Paper Tubular ribbon
🔹Paper ribbon (0.2mm)
🔹Bamboo ribbon

After 7 months underground, we are delighted to confirm that out of the 11 buried samples, 8 completely disappeared. The Polyester (used as a control) and the Tencel- cord were the only 2 materials that did not show any sign of disintegration.

Although the Tencel ribbon did disappear, the Tencel cord is denser due to it being twisted, which will slow the rate of disintegration. The cotton linen (picture 3) had started to show signs of disintegration and discolouration.
We are extremely committed to our work on sustainable ribbons, and we will continue to update you with any future burials and their results!

Note: This experiment was performed in the UK by Cole Fabrics, and no home composting standard was followed. The materials were buried in an approx. 50:50 mixture of peat-free compost and soil.

As we begin 2026, it’s always important to take a moment to reflect on the year just gone. With that in mind, we’ve recently wrapped up our customer feedback survey for 2025. ⭐️📊

As in previous years, we asked our customers to rate their experience with Cole Fabrics on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent), alongside sharing their honest feedback.

That's a wrap here at Cole Fabrics for 2025...

We are now closed for the Festive period, and as we close the doors for 2025 we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our customers and suppliers for your continued support throughout the year.

Last Thursday we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day in the office to support Save the Children🎄

It was a great day filled with some wonderfully whacky jumpers, festive spirit, and plenty of smiles, all for a brilliant cause.

We’re really proud to say that we raised £125 to help support children around the world.

A big thank you to everyone who took part! 🎅✨

As a group with strong physical, emotional and historical ties to Hong Kong, we are deeply shocked and saddened by the events in Wang F*k Court, Tai Po last week.

We will be channelling our support through the Hong Kong Red Cross and would like to thank the emergency services and countless volunteers for their tireless efforts.
