Safe babywearing isn't about perfection 💛

When you're reading safety guidelines for the first time, it can feel overwhelming. TICKS, positioning, what to avoid, when to check, it's a lot when you're already sleep-deprived and learning to care for a tiny human.

But here's what you need to know:
You're allowed to be a beginner. You're allowed to make small adjustments as you learn. You're allowed to double-check positioning even after weeks of wearing. You're allowed to ask the same questions multiple times.
The vast majority of parents babywear safely because the guidelines, whilst important, are straightforward once you understand them.

Learn the principles. Check positioning. Ask for help when uncertain. Trust yourself.
And enjoy the closeness of babywearing, knowing you're doing it safely 💛

Safe babywearing becomes second nature 🌿

When you first learn about TICKS and positioning, it can feel like a lot to remember. Tight, in view, close enough to kiss, chin off chest, supported back… five things to check every time?

But here's what actually happens:
After a week or two of babywearing, you stop consciously running through the checklist. You glance down and automatically register that baby's face is visible. You feel when they've slumped and need repositioning. You adjust the carrier without thinking about it.
It becomes intuitive just like driving a car or making a cup of tea, the individual steps fade into the background and the whole thing just... flows.

You're allowed to be a beginner. You're allowed to check and double-check at first. You're allowed to ask questions. You're allowed to need help getting the fit right.

None of that means you're doing it wrong. It means you're learning something new whilst sleep-deprived and adjusting to life with a baby. Of course it takes a minute.

The safety guidelines exist to support you, not to stress you out. Give yourself time. It clicks faster than you think 💛

5 common babywearing mistakes (and how to fix them) 💡

Even experienced babywearers make these occasionally. The good news? They're all easy to fix.

1. CARRYING BABY TOO LOW The mistake: Baby's sitting at your waist or belly The fix: Tighten everything and bring baby up to upper chest. You should be able to kiss their head easily.

2. LOOSE FABRIC The mistake: Carrier feels saggy, baby can pull away from you The fix: Tighten section by section until baby's snug against you. If you lean forward slightly, baby should stay close.

3. COVERING BABY'S FACE The mistake: Scarves, coat hoods, or carrier fabric near baby's nose/mouth The fix: Keep face completely clear at all times. Fresh air should always circulate freely around their face.

4. BULKY CLOTHING UNDERNEATH The mistake: Snowsuits or thick coats under the carrier The fix: Thin layers only. Your body heat keeps them warm, they need less than you think.

5. NOT CHECKING REGULARLY The mistake: Putting baby in once and assuming positioning stays perfect The fix: Quick glance every 15-20 minutes, especially when starting out. Check after sitting/standing.

None of these mean you're "doing it wrong." They're all part of learning. The difference is knowing what to look for and how to adjust 💛

Whenever we go on holiday, or any trip really, even at home, muslin cloths and sheets are a life saver. They have a whole multitude of uses from towels, to lightweight blankets, to face cloths and hankies. We genuinely use muslin all the time at home.

As a sustainable business and self-confessed eco-friendly hippy, I’m always looking for ways to make the most of any leftover muslin scraps from making slings. I decided to make some of the scraps from slings into cloths and sheets available in the outlet. As these are made up of scraps, they will only be available in limited quantities, colours and patterns, and they will all be different sizes.

The first time I flew with baby in a carrier instead of juggling them in my arms? Game-changer ✈️

Here's why it's brilliant:

✅ You can wear baby through security (yes, really!)
✅ Ring slings are brilliant for flights - easy on/off
✅ Baby needs to come out during takeoff/landing (airline rules)
✅ Once seatbelt sign's off, baby can go back in carrier

The closeness helps them settle. Your hands are free to actually function. Everyone's less stressed.

Planning a holiday with baby? 🌴✈️

Babywearing might just be your secret weapon for stress-free travel.

Whether you're heading to the beach, exploring a new city, or visiting family abroad, babywearing transforms situations that are complicated with a pram:

✈️ Airports: Hands free for luggage and boarding passes
🏖️ Beaches: No pushing through sand
🏛️ Cities: Navigate cobblestones, stairs, and narrow streets
🚆 Public transport: Skip the pram accessibility stress

Plus, your carrier provides familiar comfort when everything else is new and unsettling for baby.
