In the summer of 1900, a small detachment of Royal Marines found themselves surrounded in the heart of Beijing during the Boxer Rebellion.
Anti-foreign fighters laid siege to the International Legations, trapping around 900 civilians, diplomats and soldiers from several nations.
Despite being heavily outnumbered and running dangerously low on food and am******on, the Royal Marines fought alongside troops from across the world, holding their defensive positions for 55 days.
Improvised barricades, constant sniper fire and repeated assaults became daily life.
Against all odds, the defenders held out until an international relief force finally broke through the siege on 14 August 1900.
In light of this incredible chapter of history, endurance athlete has set himself an equally extraordinary modern-day challenge.
Jack is currently attempting to run over 12,000 km across 17 countries, from Beijing to London. A former British Army soldier and two-time world record holder, he's taking on the challenge to inspire people to push beyond their perceived limits while raising money for charity.
