Today is Fathers Day, and we want to send all our love and support to the Dads out there today (and of course all the carers and anyone who is doing that important caring fatherly role)! ❤️ 💙
Our wonderful and talented PANDAS colleague, Laura, drew this beautiful and poignant image, and we think it depicts so well what so many men go through in their journey to becoming a Dad.
Sadly, we know that men do suffer with perinatal mental health issues, yet there is still such a lack of awareness and stigma around this. Men too experience hormonal changes when becoming Dads that can affect their mood, and we know that at least 1 in 10 will go on to develop some kind of perinatal mental health condition, such as postnatal depression.
Many Dads simply do not know this, making their struggles harder to comprehend. Adding to this, we know that men are often less forthcoming in talking about mental health struggles, making reaching out for support even harder. Many are also doing their best to support their partners, and don't feel it's appropriate to reach out for support themselves...especially if their partner has experienced a traumatic birth, for example.
It is PANDAS's mission to break these stigmas and to spread the word that our services are for Dads and men too! Dads - please know we exist for you and you are worthy of mental health support. If you are struggling please don't hesitate in getting in touch 💌
