We’re hiring! 👟

We’re looking for a friendly, reliable person to join our small team at SoleLution on Portishead High Street.

It’s a part-time role, working Saturdays plus extra days during busy times like back to school and holiday cover.

You don’t need shoe fitting experience, we’ll train you. What matters more is that you love people, enjoy helping them, and are patient with everyone from toddlers getting their first shoes to customers who’ve struggled to find anything that fits for years.

Due to the responsibilities of the role, including working without close supervision, applicants must be 18 or over.

Do you run or go to a baby group, toddler group, nursery or parent group?

I'd love to come along for a short chat about children's feet. When to check them, what to look for in shoes, and the things most parents are never told. No sales pitch, just advice.

It's not always about buying a pair of shoes. I want parents to know what to look out for, so they can look after their little ones' feet properly.

Knee-high boots are back.

They work just as well with a dress or skirt as they do with jeans tucked in. Black is still the staple, but this season it's warmer browns too, like chestnut and cognac.

We've tall boots in black and brown from Rieker, Remonte, Josef Seibel and now Tamaris, from £79.99. The new Tamaris is £120, a suede knee-high in camel with a block heel and a buckle detail.

Google, a Facebook group, a friend, the health visitor? There's a lot out there, and it's hard to know what to trust.

It's not always about selling a pair of shoes. If you've a question about your child's feet, ask us.

Three Legero Anzio for the men, and one of them is a boot. Bold, for October!

Gore-Tex on the brown shoe and the black boot, a side zip on the charcoal, and a wider fit across all three. Smart enough for the pub, sorted enough for the dog walk.

Direct heat dries leather out too fast. It can stiffen and crack, and shortens the life of the shoe. Stuff them with newspaper, leave them somewhere at room temperature and give them a day.

We suggest checking first shoes every 6 to 8 weeks. That doesn't mean we'll sell you a pair every 6 weeks.

Every child grows at their own rate. My son was in his first pair for 9 months, then had a huge growth spurt during a deep sleep at nursery one afternoon (yes, it happens). My daughter I could set the clock by. Every 8 weeks she needed new shoes.

So we check, and we'll only sell you a pair if they need one.

Children’s feet don’t grow steadily, they grow in spurts. Which is exactly why regular fit checks matter, not just when you think you might need new shoes.
