It is with great sadness we would like announce the closure of Margaret Rose shop.
We have seen many changes over the last 104 years of trading but none quite so challenging as the last 5 years have been. This has been due to the devastating impact of Covid and unfortunately, Brexit which has seen a huge rise in courier charges for our parcels delivered from Europe.
Our decision to close was not an easy one and as my Dad David would say βweβve had a good runβ.
Prescot Knitting Company Ltd began in 1919 when Eleanor Mary Rose and her sister Lilly Abraham opened up their front parlour at 32 Eccleston Street. They sat and made hand knitted garments selling them to the public. They then started selling wool and haberdashery in small quantities and the rest, as they say, is history. Our little Company was born and grew from there.
We have been lucky and honoured to have had many dedicated, hard working members of staff over the years and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their years of service.
Most importantly thank YOU, our wonderful customers, for all the support you have given us over the years. We will miss you all so very much. Margaret Rose has always been so much more than just a shop. Itβs a place to meet and have a chat. Over the years weβve shared in your lives, the happy times, the sad times, the births of your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and so many of you have gone from being customers to great friends. We have loved and cherished every minute.
Our hope and wish for the future is quite simply, if you can, buy local. Support the businesses right here on your doorstep, the new and the old, especially in our precious little town of Prescot. That would make such a difference.
I know this will come as sad news and a shock to so many of you but thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your custom, loyalty and friendship has meant the world to us.
We look forward to seeing you all for our closing down sale - the biggest Sale we have ever had. It starts tomorrow, Wednesday 26th July at 9am. All stock must go and there are some fantastic bargains.
With love and thanks
Margaret and Rebecca xx
