Welcoming a rare and historic vintage compact commemorating the Spirit of St. Louis, retracing Charles Lindbergh’s record-breaking solo non-stop flight 99 years ago across the Atlantic Ocean.
Charles Lindbergh’s original flight in his single-engine monoplane from Roosevelt Field, New York to Le Bourget, Paris, covered 3,610 miles and took 33.5 hours.
Although this powder compact’s journey originated in Redlands, California, and has ended in Ramsgate, Kent, its transatlantic flight departed from Chicago O’Hare and landed at London Heathrow, a distance of 3,950 miles.
In modern airliners, the actual flight time would normally be around 8 hours, however due to the vagaries of modern-day global distribution and Customs procedures (DHL International), the total elapsed transit time was 43.5 hours! 🌎✈️🌍
So Charles Lindbergh and his Spirit of St. Louis still reigns supreme! 😉🏆🥰

A late 1940s LSM compact with Belle Epoque-style repoussé decoration made at the Edward Street Works in Dundee, Scotland.

Always have room for one more compact with my favourite London scene! 🥰 (this one by the Birmingham brand ‘Vogue Vanities’)
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, seven months to be precise! 😢 In that time, I’ve been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, have undergone chemotherapy, premature cataract surgery, and for the foreseeable am receiving monoclonal antibody treatment. Hope now to get back to posting more frequently 😊
I’ll need to be immunosuppressed for the rest of my life, so need to avoid crowds and can’t travel like I used to, even up to London - which is making me especially nostalgic for these vintage London scenes! 💕
