When my daughter was born, she went into the Special Care Baby Unit and there she stayed for six weeks. I bet my husband wanted to run away. I felt like I did. We didn't. And, a lot of that is down to him. He is the one who kept telling me we could do this. He cracked jokes with me when no one else would dare.

Mothers spend a third of their salaries on childcare so, when the government offered 15 hours of free childcare for three and four-year olds, to say it was welcome was an understatement. Except, there was a teeny, tiny issue. The money the government pays nurseries doesn't add up to the hourly cost of care.
