As I am waiting for the sealant to cure in the 1949s petrol tank, I thought I would make a start on the 1948 Allis Chalmbers B petrol tank. The sealant we are using has zero shelf life, so needs using straight away/within a few hours. It just makes sense to get them both done at the same time 🙂 we have had to order a new fuel cap for this one.

We’ve just placed our order with Craftmaster for the undercoat. We want quality so have ordered quality.

The petrol tank for the 1949 Allis Chalmbers B has been cleaned down, sanded and is now ready for some under coat. That will be tomorrow morning job. This evening I shall be “sloshing” - adding a sealant to the inside of the fuel tank. This will help prevent any leaks and will help keep the fuel clean when in use.

Looking forward to this one! For three years I have been trying to get in to the show, and this year it finally happened!

Dad is entered in with the Vincent Firefly and Matchless G80 motorbikes.

I am entered in with the International B250 snd Wheel Horse Commando 800 tractors. Uncle Mather will be there with his David Brown.

The last couple of evenings, I have been tinkering away with our 1949 Allis Chalmers B. When we picked this up, the plan was to just get her running and on to the rally field as soon as possible. After much consideration, I have changed my mind.

A couple of years back I bought another 1948 Allis Chalmers B, and this was going to be my dedication to my Nan who passed away, naming her ‘Mary’. Due to various reasons, not much has happened with it and she still needs a full restoration.

With this in mind, I have now decided to do full restorations on both tractors at the same time, dedicating them to my grand parents (Dads parents) who are no longer with us, John & Mary Earl. The original Vintage Earl Collectors. The 1948 AC will be Mary, the 1949 AC will be John; their names sign written on the tractors.

Last night, I made a start on the 1949 ACs Petrol tank, cleaning the inside, and stripping as much rust off as possible before covering it with ‘Black Jack’ to strip off the rest. There is a small repair to do, and the inside will be treated with ‘Slosh’ to help prevent any rust get in to the fuel system.

One hell of a “winter challenge” ahead, but I shall be aiming to reveal both tractors at East Midlands Steam and Country Show 2027.

This weekend we venture to Belvoir Castle in Grantham! Our first time exhibiting at the show and we can’t wait.

I shall be taking the Wheel Horse Commando 800 garden tractor, and Dad will be taking his 1952 Matchless G80 motorbike. Uncle Mather will be there too with his David Brown tractor

This evening, I have started work on our 1949 Allis Chalmbers B. For the time being, the plan is to just get her running and out on to the rally field as quick as possible - she’s very low down on the full restoration list.

Tonight, the plus were removed and engine turned over to check for a spark….. a ruddy big beautiful spark :) so that’s good news. Next step, clean the fuel system.
