For all those that are new here and have just started following, we thought it would be a great opportunity to tell tou more about us and our little shop!
When our Great Grandfather bought the house and shop at 38 Fore Street it meant that Great Granny had her own shop to run. Little did they think that their Great Granddaughters would open their own business there over 125 years later!
When we opened our shop Two Sisters in 2022 we brought with us different interests:
Susie has a life-long love of making things; she used to make dolls clothes on her toy sewing machine in the late 1950s! Now she collects beautiful old textiles of all sorts – tapestries, linen, embroidery and gives them new life as bags, jackets, belts and more! “I always think about those who made the textiles I use. Giving new life and new meaning to their work is enormously satisfying, and I love to think of my work giving others enjoyment as a new creation”.
Since Elizabeth lived in Mexico with her family in the late 1980s, her interests have been in issues of fair trade and social justice, of ethical business practices and environmental awareness. “Having our own shop where these issues come together and people can buy beautiful sustainable products is very exciting, especially when it comes with such a family history.”
At the start of the 2025 Season we decided to rename the shop Sisters. More inclusive and a tribute to our customers over the past three years who have appreciated shopping with us and found fun and solidarity!
