Took a little break from commissions today and did a fun project! ⠀

Most of you voted on Stories for this pattern (3rd image) so here it is...⠀
⠀
I only had a small amount of this fabric left and even had to cannibalise another dress of made to get the sleeves! Hence the pattern not matching / being in the same direction. But yknow what? I really love it!

This is the first draft of a dress I’m making for a fab client - as it’s a practice run, I’ve used bits of fabric I had left from other projects to reduce waste. ⠀

I still put as much effort into the practice pieces as the final versions, because I want to make sure it fits and that it all works! ⠀
⠀

Throwback to my exhibition entry for last years .club - I got the letter O and went all out with this orange cape. Full circle (o shaped!), dyed orange, hand painted with a ruff collar and fringing! I loved making something this fantastic, so holler if you have a wild commission for me!

Work in progress... the original of this dress is made from stretch fabric so there are some technical issues I’m working out to make it work in a non-stretch fabric. But for a first draft, it’s pretty gorgeous...

✏️ Making the pattern pieces for the next commissioned dress - this is the first step and definitely a rough draft!⠀

✂️ The original dress is made with stretch fabric, and making it with a non-stretch fabric means there will be a few adjustments needed to make it fit the same way.⠀

👗 I love the making process as much as the finished result, and pattern drafting is my favourite bit! Seeing flat pieces of paper turn into a 3D garment never stops being magical.

A make using a Simplicity 5015 pattern from the early 1970s. This was fun to sew and there’s a sleeveless version with ruffles that I would love to make for someone! Give me a shout if this is your thing...

My wonderful client sent me these photos of the dress I made for her - swipe to see the front and the original dress! This was a dream project - using second hand fabric that she sourced, it put my skills to the test and turned out better than I could have dreamed of!
