It’s always a treat to visit the Fine Art degree shows at UHI Shetland.
This year is particularly special for us because Emma Eunson – a member of the Nielanell team – is graduating with a BA (Hons).
Emma’s work examines how memories are formed, revisited and altered over time. Images 1-3 here are from her exhibition; subtle and thoughtful pieces in a range of media.
“Perhaps objects do not merely decorate our lives, they absorb them. They stand quietly in the liminal space between past and present, between remembering and forgetting. Even when we move on, they remain, holding stories we many not yet know we will need.”
Emma’s show has been recognised with a Society of Scottish Artists New Graduate Award and a Shetland Arts Exhibition Prize.
Our congratulations to all graduating artists.
The exhibition continues until Friday 19 June.

A little bit of history...
Our first introduction to Emma came through her involvement in V&A Dundee's Scottish Design Relay. Between 2017 and 2018, this innovative project encouraged Scotland’s young people to engage with their local design heritage.
Shetland’s contribution to the Relay – led by designer Niela Nell Kalra of Nielanell and artist Amy Gear – saw nine young Shetlanders collaborate on a collection of knitted accessories.*
The finished pieces were shown, alongside work by young people from across Scotland, as part of V&A Dundee’s inaugural exhibition programme in September 2018.
Shortly after the Relay, in early 2019, Emma joined our team at the Nielanell studio. She has been a valued member ever since.
We are so proud of her!
*The project was facilitated locally by Shetland Arts and designer Leanne Fischler for V&A Dundee.
