I've been setting up the loom with a complicated warp to sample for my next blanket design and i keep making mistakes. Sometimes you have to know when it's time to stop.

One of the reasons why I like front-to-back warping is the great flexibility that it adds to the design process. I didn't really know where I was going with this project and changed my mind at least 3 times. You can see the gaps in the reed where I pulled out the darker threads which were only in the warp to bulk up the width. So much easier than messing around with a raddle.

In the event I needn't have worried about the width as I had to reduce the sett from 12 to 10 epi when the warp produced an alarming amount of fluff when beamed so the whole piece ended up 3" too wide!

I think there's some alpaca in there. Should have kept the label 🙃

Deep gulp as I throw all 12ft of it into the washing machine at 40 degrees! Watch this space.

The yarn was purchased from a lovely yarn shop on the island of Cumbrae and I've been staring at it all year trying to decide how to use it.
