Words like ‘elegant’ and ‘detailed’ are almost never applicable to teenage boys, but when talking about the kind of work that Joshua Birch Jones produces, they are as accurate as can be. At just 15 years old Josh is one of the youngest fashion designers to showcase his work on the runways of London Fashion Week and INTERNATIONAL Fashion Weeks Amsterdam alongside established, adult designers. Josh

began his design career at 4 years old by sketching his mother’s evening dresses and then altering their designs to suit his vision. More than 10 years later and Josh is still fascinated by the endless possibilities in creating evening or red-carpet gowns. He takes inspiration from the women and the world around him in crafting each collection, the first of which was shown in the spring of 2018, called City Life. His second and third, Sweet Dreams and Moonlight, respectively, reflect his growing confidence as an artist and his drive to keep learning and experimenting

It was an absolute honour to work with Alex on creating this bespoke look for this occasion. Being able to dress people who inspire and lead in meaningful ways is something that means so much to me at Josh Birch Jones.

Alex’s look is crafted entirely from British Wool suiting, a timeless, heritage choice to also mark such a meaningful moment.

My creative life began at the age of four. I remember escaping in to my mother’s wardrobe taking in with complete wonder her trove of vintage pieces. This was no search for Narnia but a playground for me - a visceral reaction to the colours and fabrics, complete joy! I understood through those young eyes the power of clothes to stir emotion, to communicate, I knew there were stories in each and every piece!

I would sketch edits of gowns and vintage finds, Escada and Hervé Léger, adding my own interpretation to create new designs. It wasn’t long until sketch on sketch these would evolve to full collections of my own designs and evening wear. I grew up surrounded by strong and independent women and before the age of 10 I was already designing with these real-life muses in mind, navigating careers, family, work and play.

I still have pinch me moments, seven incredible shows later and in 2022, the youngest designer to join the British Fashion Council. 2025 - we’re ready! - JBJ
