People keep asking me about the word kuzu - its not a real word but just an african sort of nickname from my time in Rwanda which I felt fitted in with what I am doing now with my fabrics. While I was there I became friends with a lovely family in Butare and the youngest son was Elie. As a joke he called me umuzukuru which means grandmother in kinyarwanda which i was not - but i was "old" to him and he was youngl. The word Kuzu comes from that word and that time that I spent with them - times which were hard and challenging with many difficulties to overcome but always their spirit came through. What they have achieved is admirable and inspirational .
