Another fantastic workshop.....draughting pattern pieces for a change....there is nothing more uplifting than sharing skills to a group of super interested people....I wasn't disappointed and I don't think this devoted group of sewists were either!

We are really developing a community here, one of mutual respect, no one being better than the other, learning and sharing together with laughs along the way, and I like it! Open up picture 1......

I ve added the timetable of activity as a reminder so if anything sparks your interest come and have a chat!

On a general note, the shop will be closed tomorrow Friday 11th all day as my life in the North reaches its final conclusion as I hand over the keys to what was 'our' home.....a bittersweet moment, but a necessary part of my life moving forward alone. Your patience is appreciated. 🀍

It's been a real makers weekend this week at Big Barn! It's the first time that I ve run concurrent workshops and it worked well! Fuelled by plenty of tea, coffee and cake courtesy of Katharines bakery in Shifnal, the creativity was in abundance and over-flowing!

This isn't just about sewing and developing skills, it's about finding out who you really are and dressing accordingly.

It's a real eye opener, from finding your personal style and embellishing it, to working collectively to achieve outstanding stuff!

One golden rule.....No one is the font of all knowledge, no one is better than anyone else and there is always a need to be conscious and aware of how our behaviours can affect the wellbeing of others.... if you know you know!

Team work makes the dream work!

So, pictures......I think the maximum group numbers is definitely 5, everyone fitting on the cutting table at the same time, lovely dress switched up by using a contrasting colour zip, a fine example of and one of the results from the shirring workshop and this absolutely stunning pair of denim dungarees with contrast bands, variegated top stitch with buttons to be added.....so very well done to all!

Now, there were a couple of no shows for the workshops, which was a shame, and although it didn't affect the experience, no shows mean that someone who wanted to come couldn't, because on paper the session was fully booked. So moving forward I ll be taking non refundable deposits (50% of the workshop cost) at the time of booking. So, if you ve booked on to any of the workshops, please come in and confirm your place with a deposit! Thanks!🌞

Unfortunately.......πŸ˜•

Quilters Group this evening 3rd of September 5.30-8 will not go ahead, due to circumstances beyond my control......I thought I could sort it but I can't.....

However,

FORTUNATELY....πŸ˜€

The storm should blow over by Saturday, so the Dungaree Workshop is well and truly on! Hurrah! It's going to be a good one.....

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Oh, and here s a bank holiday funny.....true, but funny! 🀣 feel free to share! 🀣

The summer season may not be officially over, but we re heading into the last 1/3 of 2026 which means autumn and winter will soon be upon us! What a year its been, and the weather! Soon be time to batten down the hatches and feel the warm glow of the sew! πŸ‚πŸπŸŽ‘

But first, well done that man! Saturday 's sewcial saw the attentendance of a man INTENT on mastering his mother's old sewing machine whilst producing something nice for his home....I hope his wife appreciated the effort! This is a piped cushion cover with a zip and very well made it was too! And he s coming back to make it a pair! Didn't he do well!?πŸ”₯

As we head into this next few months, I ve changed the shop opening times, so it's the same days, but opening at 9 30am and taking a lunch break from 12.30-1.30pm.....but I m always open to meeting at odd times and after hours....you know this.. flexibility is my middle name! πŸ˜…

Now this week, I ve a lot going on, not just session wise, but I ve got some sorting to do, and I want to refresh the window dress...so bear with.......you know I m always at the end of a message!

Thank you to my ever present volunteers.......I could manage the half of this without you! And if you ve a few hours to spare, please come and join the team! Always a good laugh!

But session wise this week, can't wait for the regular Quilting group on Thursday evening 5.30-8....I ve a fab block to share this week!

Continuing into the weekend with the Saturday Dungaree make, and the Sunday Shirring Session, both of which are fully booked!

Now, the workshop timetable has been out for a few weeks and I am super grateful that I am in fact fully booked for the Dressmaking and pattern cutting groups, but if you missed out and still want to do, just register your interest with me and I ll see if I can fit extra sessions in before the end of the year!

Never a dull moment in what has been, and continues to be a difficult year for me personally in so many ways.....πŸ’” but you keep the light burning at the end of a very long tunnel, so thank you, you know who you are! 🀍

Fantastic Sewcial at Big Barn today, not quite like this, but the camaraderie, skill sharing, cake baking (yes, school cake this week....my fave!) and a general good time always makes me happy.....even when my heart is eternally heavy (if you know, you know) its goal achieved.......thank you 🀍

BRIDAL ADVICE INCOMING!

As the summer wedding season nears its end, and the brides for next year and the year after are busy planning, I just wanted to give a shout out to AZAZIE ....this is a purely independent promotion by me, i have no vested interest but as I have seen many bridesmaids and prom dresses from this company, I think if you re a bride on a budget, and you are buying online, then this company is worth a look! One of my brides secured 3 dresses for Β£10 each just by ordering on a promotional day! And they cater for all sizes and shapes!

Generally speaking, the quality of the garment is very good and look absolutely stunning when altered and steamed.....so if you are that bride, or part of the bridal party or planning prom dresses for next year and on a budget, give this site a look over.....🀍

Hello all.......a few issues for me to deal with this week sadly, so whilst I ll endeavour to maintain shop opening times, I will be closed from 12.30-1.30pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, open as usual Wednesday and this will continue moving forward.......

Don't forget it's the Saturday Sewcial this week 10-2 at Big Barn.....come for the whole session or just drop in...there s a warm welcome and a cup of tea waiting alongside lighthearted banter and of course a bit of sewing!

The workshops are filling up nicely already, so if you have an interest, express it now, before it's too late!

This evening's endeavours at the Quilters Group at Big Barn... the Saw Tooth Star 12 inch block! (Picture 1) And a short demonstration of what to do with scraps....(Picture 2)

Such a fantastic effort by all, and some wonderful pieces achieved...many attendees are new to quilting....the only way to grow confidence is to challenge yourself and this is one of the easiest ways!

Every other Thursday, this is where you will find us, and if you want a timetable of all sewing events between now and Christmas, pop in to the shop on the Parade....plenty of copies there!
