The driving force behind Forty Thieves Apparel is Jason Macmillan born in the uk with Irish & Scottish Heritage , the graffiti artist turned textile/graphic Designer with a great love for photography & the arts and a confessed sneaker addict. The
Designer inherited the artistic gene from his Father who could turn his hand to calligraphy,painting ,Drawing, and Sculpture great talent in a large aspect of the arts. The label was born in South East Asia, with a Chapter in Peru under the sister brand Cuarenta Cholos with a passion to supply unique limited edition clothing to the global market.
2015 was a benchmark for 40 Thieves Apparel Launching the Apparel Brand in Phnom Penh Cambodia with the first outlet being Black Star Tattoo, with a respectful alliance with the Black Star Owner Sun. The British designer sources locally and collaborates his designs with internationally renowned fashion labels including Addict clothing company from the Uk. Jason takes and fuses a unique style of Urban imagery being heavily influenced by Graffiti/hip hop Culture/ world Tribalism/Urban sport/fashion/Art & Music also cholo and bike Gang Culture . His extensive travel through Asia and South America & the Stateside has made the distinct branding concept a well accepted following worldwide. This independent label produces limited runs of 100% premium rinse-washed t-shirts, sweatshirts, headwear, scarves and jewelry. Limited Edition means LIMITED to FORTY THIEVES and CARTELIFE endorsed. 40 Thieves Sound System is a collective of DJ’s based in Phnom Penh that is dedicated and passionate about good music good street art and good positive attitude in the Cambodian music scene. Closely linked to Jason McMillan’s urban street fashion label 40 Thieves , Cartelife & Rollin 40’s, The Sound System will focus on the music, mainly Funk, Soul, Reggae & Hip Hop which we feel needs a lot more representation in this country so we are hosting special parties and events at choice quality interesting venues in the capital Phnom Penh and around SE Asia. At our events there will also be a chance to buy 40 Thieves merchandise which is all highly limited premium quality urban street wear and there will always be promo items given away free. The collective mainly consists of Dj’s Alan Ritchie & Dj Bree but we aim to always involve like minded music lovers that have a talent for dropping good quality non mainstream music and having special guests to play at our events on a regular basis. We are currently working with Dr Wah Wah, Kimchi Collective who are all established artists and music lovers that are pushing the music scene in Cambodia in a good positive direction. 40 Thieves Sound System also has a brand new 2 hour show onUbradio.net hosted by Alan Ritchie & Dj Bree. Every 3rd Sunday of the month this will be dedicated to Funk Soul, Reggae, Hip Hop, Rare Groove & Boogie with special guest DJ’s invited down to drop some of their favorite sounds every month. The show will also be a platform to promote special upcoming 40 Thieves Sound system parties and events and help spread the word about good music and art and help promote like minded artists and organizations in Phnom Penh and Cambodia. BEHIND THE NAME:
The first Forty Thieves gang was formed in NYC, in the 1820s by Irish immigrants on the Lower East Side. It was New York's first organized criminal gang with a disciplined membership and leadership. They catered to corrupt politicians, with a steady flow of committed muggings and robberies. The 40 Thieves gang would meet in a speakeasy run by Rosanna Peers, which quickly became the hub for Edward Colemen’s street – the place he handed out criminal assignments. By 1850 the gang fell apart as the name was associated with the fall of all the Tammany Hall politicians – famous for steeling from the city treasury. It was heard another gang resurfaced in the depression through the prohibition era with the same name. Later again Malcolm X's description of the Forty Thieves Cartel revealed a well organized criminal legacy of New York’s underworld continued evolving for criminals disciplined in respect for effective organisation.
