High prescription. Surprisingly slim result. 👓

🌘 Your sunglasses aren’t eclipse glasses.

Tomorrow evening, the UK will experience its most impressive solar eclipse since 1999 — and here in Southampton, around 92.5% of the Sun is expected to disappear from view.

It should be spectacular. But please don’t reach for your everyday sunglasses to watch it.

However dark the lenses, ordinary sunglasses aren’t designed for looking directly at the Sun.

So what should you use? What should you look for when buying eclipse glasses? And can you safely photograph it?
