SewBo
Southbourne 6 WEEK BEGINNERS DRESSMAKING COURSE
What you will learn
My aim is that by the end of the course, you will have made a simple garment using a commercial paper pattern and will have learned a lot of other stuff along the way!
You do not need to have had much sewing experience but you do need to be able to thread a machine and sew in a straight line. If you have never used a sewing machine before, I would recommend attending an Introductory Sewing Workshop that I run from time to time.
We will cover
Patterns(before the course starts via phone or email)
Choosing the correct pattern size
Degrees of difficulty
Fabrics (before the course starts via phone or email)
Choosing the right fabric
What is easy to sew and what isn't
Adapting the pattern
Checking the pattern measurements against your body and adapting to fit
Cutting out
Laying out the pattern pieces and pinning
Importance of grainlines
Marking darts, notches etc
Construction
Sewing darts
Gathering and pleating
Inserting a zip
Setting in a sleeve
Neatening seams
Hand sewing
Tacking/basting
Hem stitching
Everyone works at a different pace so while some may finish a garment in the 6 weeks and start another piece, some may need extra time to finish. Maximum 3 people.
The course will run for 6 weeks (18 hrs) from my home in Southbourne.
Tuesday mornings from 12th September 9.30am – 12.30pm (excluding week beginning 25th September)
Wednesday evenings from 13th September 6.30pm – 9.30pm (excluding week beginning 25th September)
£180.00
If you are interested in this course please email me at [email protected] and I will forward more information.
Many thanks
