Hello 👋 It's been a while. So long, in fact, that the last thing I posted - a Halloween post last year- now looks fairly recent! Anyway, I thought it was time I finally posted an update on things. The Instagram algorithm has never been particularly fond of me, but after a year without posting, it undoubtedly hates me now 😅 I took a little hiatus from my shop earlier this year, and although the ready-to-ship items remained, I removed all the made-to-order pieces. For several reasons, but the main one being that I was just tired. My day job was taking it out of me, the orders that I could only fulfill on my days off were becoming overwhelming, and it got to the point where I would no longer feel a sense of excitement when receiving an order, but a feeling of 'how am I going to get this done by x date?' The little time off I was left with I was too physically and mentally drained to do anything. There were other factors as well...international price hikes coupled with packaging laws across various European countries and the effects of Brexit made shipping abroad complicated and costly. The 'buy and return' culture of online shopping had a big impact on my shop as well...it's become so normalised now for people buying clothing online to buy something in haste then return if they change their mind, and although I'm not against this per se, it's a tricky one for sellers who make things from scratch (and stings even more when it's an order being returned from overseas, and they have to refund the international shipping cost). Then there's Etsy's refulsal to do anything about the resellers and mass produced items flooding the site.

All of the above left me feeling demotivated and in need of a break from it all.

I've finally decided to return to my shop, but am now concentrating on my bestsellers, and perhaps custom orders. I will also no longer make full collections but 'mini collections' and one-off pieces, as I now know that having 100 made-to-order items listed just isn't feasible for a one person shop working from home.
