Flying Pig Embroidery Creators of stunning custom made embroidered gifts and homeware Flying Pig Embroidery was created in early 2016 by embroiderer and costume maker Vicky Richards.

Working within wardrobe in theatre fulfills a dream but her passion and love for the art of embroidery wasn’t being satisfied. What makes Flying Pig Embroidery unique and exciting is that we don’t really do ‘stock designs’ from other companies. Most of our pieces are designed, digitized and stitched in the little workroom in Vickys’ home. Inspired by nature, all florals and animals big and small,

and also the patterns and colours found in the art forms from other cultures. The Indian Elephant was Flying Pig’s first design, the perfect example of the combination of our inspirations. We love taking on commissions of all shapes and sizes too! From embroidering patches to bespoke business logo work to unique jacket backs, drop us a message and we will create your perfect embroidery piece! I’ve been super quiet on here again, but this time for a very good reason. The greatest thing I’ve ever made, little Dylan here has been keeping me busy since he was born in April. We’ve also relocated so it’s all been busy busy! Our new studio will be underway next week so we’ll soon be properly settled, but in the meantime we are set up and making your Christmas orders!

Pretty chuffed with how our first pet portrait sample stitched out. Our beautiful dog/ studio assistant .the.brownstaby was the perfect muse. Taken from the most incredible photo by the amazing (not the one included in this post) hours of digitising work, 60 different threads, a couple of hundred thread changes and several hours of stitching later and this is the result. Now to stitch it onto a jacket or frame with a couple of colour tweaks 🤔

We created this design to combine Jen and her husbands favourite flowers in a large back piece and then a tiny version on a pocket flap and the wedding date on the other. We loved creating this special keepsake for such a lovely lady!

We’ll stick with the royal theme. One of my more recent posts (still a good 2 years ago!) was a sample stitch out for some Tudor liveries being made by the incredible but it was the wrong design! This is the correct design, featuring the iconic Tudor rose and a crown, it used a mixture of matte and metallic threads to help create shading and depth and to try and recreate the look of traditional gold work embroidery.

I’ve been utterly rubbish at my socials the past couple of years. Watching the coronation over the weekend and admiring all the incredible ceremonial outfits and the stunning embroidery it felt like now is a good time to start posting again with this particular piece!
Here’s a version of the embroidery traditionally found on Order of the Garter capes dating way back in history. This was done on some capes which we also made for Bath Abbey for children to try on as part of their visits to the abbey.

We’re back!!! Flying pig has been bubbling along quietly for the last six months alongside finally being back working full time on costume jobs! But we’re now back, catching up with some orders and getting Christmassy!

Our first order of personalised ginger decorations has been posted today, we have new nhs/ vet gingers on the way and even some new Santa decorations, a couple of new Christmas stocking designs and a couple of lovely jackets in production so plenty to come!
