Over my time as a nappy librarian, sometimes feedback is that it was just all too overwhelming 😞 I understand it's a massive leap into cloth, so why not think about a Mini kit!
Based on your individual wants/needs, a small kit of 7 nappies will be put together, all ready washed, dried, and prepared for you to use. Just do 1 nappy a day if that feels right, and see how you find it

It’s Zero Waste Week and the perfect time to talk about why it’s important to try to reduce the waste we create.

Did you know?

🌍 Single-use baby nappies, wet wipes and menstrual products cause approximately 7,832,000 tonnes of waste per year in the EU!
🌍 Which is roughly the weight of a potty trained toddler, per person per year, being thrown away just in nappies, wipes and menstrual products.
🌍 As many as 51 trillion microplastic particles - 500 times more than the stars in our galaxy —litter our oceans and seas, seriously threatening marine wildlife.

👶 On average each child will go through 3,796 nappies in their lifetime.
👶 It is estimated that throughout the world a total of 1.37 billion nappies are used each day
👶 That’s 8 MILLION nappies per day in just the UK!
👶 Seven million trees are cut down each year to supply paper pulp to make single-use nappies in the UK alone.
👶 It takes 1 cup of crude oil to make the plastic for just one single-use nappy.
👶 Per one ton of single-use nappies, 16.92kg of packaging waste is produced.
👶 Not one single-use nappy ever created has biodegraded yet.

♻️ The number of wet wipes found on UK beaches has increased by more than 700% in the past decade
♻️ In 2020 volunteers collected an average of 18 wet wipes per 100 metres on UK beaches

I can't be the first one to accidentally put fabric softener in the drawer whilst loading a nappy wash 🤭
Not to worry, I just sucked it all back up with a calpol syringe, no harm done!
Remember, fabric softener reduces the absorbency of any fabrics, so don't use it on your nappies, and ideally, you shouldn't use it on your towels and cleaning cloths either 😉

Its ☀️Summer Holidays☀️ season!

Wondering if you can continue using cloth whilst on your summer holidays?
Of course you can! Several options include:
☀️Finding accommodation with a washing machine (static caravans and apartments/holiday let's usually tick this box)
☀️Using on-site laundrettes at campsites (although beware these are often low capacity, and can end up being expensive)
☀️Independant laundrettes, such as the one in this video Revolution Laundry (machine in video is a whopping 20kg and was £11 )
☀️Or if you're super thrifty, you can use the laundry room at your campsite to rinse, then hand wash your laundry, and use the spin only function on the machine to help with drying time (this cost 60p a go)

But of course, if you wish to switch to disposables for your holidays, you have already made a huge difference to the planet and your pocket 😊

Cloth on a budget?
Terry nappies are as cheap as they come, but the art of nappy folding can be off putting for many, so why not try pad-folding and using in pocket nappy shells?

Pocket nappy shells are equally cheap, and readily available online, and second hand, and you sometimes can even find a free bundle of terries!

Simply fold your terry almost in half, to the LEGNTH of your pocket
Then fold into 4 to match the WIDTH of your pocket
And lastly, stuff it inside the pocket, with the thickest end at the front of the nappy (this is because most wee needs to be absorbed near the front and middle of the nappy, not at the back )
And there you have it, a nice simple, cheap, but easy to use cloth nappy
