Two recent wedding and prom dress alternations!

Shortening the hem of this beautiful lace wedding dress and doing the hem and straps of this stunning navy satin prom dress.

The prom dress was a REAL treat to work with! The fabric was a beautiful quality duchess satin. Even though satins, chiffons, silks, tulles are some of the hardest fabrics to work with they are actually my FAVOURITES so it was a real treat!

Currently I am working with 100% silk organza and crepe de chine which is an utter dream 😂❤️

Taking the patchwork I am currently loving to do and making a table runner!

I have really been enjoying using up my scrap fabrics and matching them together to make new patterns. I found the pink and rust paisley fabric in a reduced section in IKEA and based all the other fabrics round that. Yellows, denim, reds all worked best!

What shall I make out of patchwork next?!

Wedding and prom season has officially started! This blush pink is so gorgeous and had a beautiful one shoulder design 🌸

This dresses needed the length shortening and strap going up. I also took in the right side without the strap to make sure there was no unwanted gaping!

I love a challenge to work out and working out how to shorten this strap was that! You can see in the first photo I ended up cutting the strap where it joined the front bodice. This meant I could shorten it! I French seamed it back together and made sure that it was looped through the bodice before I did! I hand sewed the gathers gown to make sure the French seam didn’t pop through to the from and it was done!

First dress of the season down! 🥳

I made another fabric scrap bag!!

This was one for for when we went to see Layfey in March. It is a combination of both of our scrap fabrics! I love the reds ❤️

I added an inside pocket for Espe’s because I REALLY missed one in my own! I have the stuff cut out for two others, another one for me and one for my Mum!

Finally sharing some photos of this from that I made for birthday last October!

I tested this pattern a while ago in a gorgeous wine taffeta to look like a traditional 1915-1918 skirt and I KNEW Espe would like the style! So instead I used the same traditional pattern with the hook and eye closures and structured waist but I added a strip of thick elastic at the back where the gathers are to make it more adjustable!

This fabric is 100% cotton herringbone which was a duvet from Dunelm! I kept all the same steps like the faced hem to get a traditional look with a modern adjustable twist!

Did you know that altering and mending 🪡 your clothes not only means you can wear your favourite clothes 🫶🏻 for longer BUT is better for the environment too?! 🌱

I think we can all agree standardised sizing from fast fashion brands is confusing and sometimes the clothes we buy don’t fit properly! 😕 Altering is a great option to get the PERFECT fit for you! 🤩

Or maybe you have changed sizes but don’t want to throw away your clothes! 🗑️ WELL altering is often cheaper to do then buying new clothes! 🛍️

Or you might have worn your favourite dress so much there is a rip in the seam 💔 That’s where mending is great! 🪡

If you have any jeans, trousers, tops, dresses, skirts, or more specialist items like suits and wedding dresses 💍 that need altering or mending please contact me📱

I have 7 years of experience working as a seamstress 🧵 with lots of knowledge about sewing tricky fabrics like chiffon, tulle and satin 👗 I love bringing new life to everyday clothes as well as seeing the joy a customer feels when their wedding dresses fits just right! 📏

My Grans birthday present 🌸🌼🌿

My first time doing a landscape made from fabric scraps! I’ve wanted to do this for ages and love how it turned out!

I got one of my Grans favourite photos of Dunster Beach and turned it into some art!

I LOVED all the different techniques I could use. Scraps for the background, freehand machine embroidery, the little embroidered birds, beads and buttons and lacework some gold work too.

It was so fun and of course I had to finish it off with a little label 🥰

I made a thing!!

I actually bought this material for a quilted jacket which is currently in 30 pieces on my floor 🤣 BUT I had spare and the evening before me and Dan went to see I realised I needed a small bag to get into the venue… SOOO I did the most Lilah thing ever and sewed this patchwork bag in a few hours on Thursday evening!

I took some photos (well did) at the British Museum yesterday and I just LOVE how good the bag looks! The strap is tied at a D-ring on one side so I can adjust the length of it. I made a little pocked for the front to put a phone, passport if you are travelling or anything else you need easy access too! It closes with three little pearly press studs which look SO cute!

I am so in love with it and I WILL be taking it everywhere with me now 🤣❤️

I really have not shared enough photos of this dress… this may sound stupid but this dress is SO special to me I want to do it justice in sharing it 🥹❤️

This gown was the most complex project I have EVER done! Completely for my own joy 🥹 Three years ago on one of my trips to Dunster Castle I said to the house manager at the time ‘I will make a real life gown of that portrait!’

Three years in the planning of research, fabric sourcing to get the most historically accurate colour and material, a week of staying up till 3/4am and I did it!

The first time I put this dress on was magical 🥰 I had spent SO many hours and so much time and money and it PAID off! I need to put it on again as this dress needs to be worn!

Everything (bar the shoes) were made by myself. This gown comprises of a shift, stays, stocking, garters, panniers, quilted petticoat, cotton petticoat, blue taffeta under skirt, front blue stomacher, white under sleeves, silver/blue too gown, pearl decoration on the bodice and hair, white neck ruffle, belt and shoes from 🪡🧵🧷

I honestly cannot believe I made it all 🥲 even the stockings! I’ll be posting more of this dress and should do a video of all the layers! And a HUGE thank you to over in America for the PERFECT fabric!

The gown is based of the portrait Margaret Luttrell or Mrs Henry Fownes Luttrell, who was alive between 1726-1766 and resided at Dunster Castle. It was painted by Richard Phelps around mid 1700’s.
