I really have not shared enough photos of this dress… this may sound stupid but this dress is SO special to me I want to do it justice in sharing it 🥹❤️
This gown was the most complex project I have EVER done! Completely for my own joy 🥹 Three years ago on one of my trips to Dunster Castle I said to the house manager at the time ‘I will make a real life gown of that portrait!’
Three years in the planning of research, fabric sourcing to get the most historically accurate colour and material, a week of staying up till 3/4am and I did it!
The first time I put this dress on was magical 🥰 I had spent SO many hours and so much time and money and it PAID off! I need to put it on again as this dress needs to be worn!
Everything (bar the shoes) were made by myself. This gown comprises of a shift, stays, stocking, garters, panniers, quilted petticoat, cotton petticoat, blue taffeta under skirt, front blue stomacher, white under sleeves, silver/blue too gown, pearl decoration on the bodice and hair, white neck ruffle, belt and shoes from 🪡🧵🧷
I honestly cannot believe I made it all 🥲 even the stockings! I’ll be posting more of this dress and should do a video of all the layers! And a HUGE thank you to over in America for the PERFECT fabric!
The gown is based of the portrait Margaret Luttrell or Mrs Henry Fownes Luttrell, who was alive between 1726-1766 and resided at Dunster Castle. It was painted by Richard Phelps around mid 1700’s.
