Global Sensation: Jackie Freeman, a 61-year-old lady footballer from England, has indeed gained significant global attention, often referred to as a "global hit" or viral sensation for her remarkable story.
She is recognized as one of the oldest registered 11 a side female football players in England, still playing competitively for Redcar Town Ladies Development FC. and now for England Walking Football ladies over 60s recently winning the championships in Devon scoring 2 goals.
Key Aspects of Jackie Freeman's Story:
"Jackie Grealish": Teammates gave her the nickname "Jackie Grealish" due to her impressive skill level, close control, and comfort on the ball, comparing her to Everton midfielder Jack Grealish.
Return to Football: After stepping away from competitive football for roughly 30 to 35 years to focus on family and career, she returned to the pitch at age 59 in August 2023, encouraged by her husband and children.
Media Coverage: Her story has been featured in major media outlets, including BBC News, talkSPORT, 5 live, and BBC Radio Tees, celebrating her passion and dedication.
Inspiration: Jackie, who runs a business called Feet First in Stokesley with her husband, has become an inspiration for women in sports, highlighting that age is not a barrier to pursuing one's passion.
Jackie has stated she intends to keep playing as long as she can, demonstrating that her love for the game has never faded.

Jackie Freeman started playing as a young girl and quickly made a name for herself - once known as the fastest woman in the league.

Then, for 35 years, Jackie stopped playing. Not because she fell out of love with the sport but because life got in the way: “Getting married, having kids just never thought no more about it.”

One day, her husband and kids encouraged her to start playing again, and now she is believed to be one of the oldest registered female footballers in England, playing for Redcar Town Ladies FC.

Jackie’s story isn’t a one-off. Far too many women are still pushed away from sports they once loved.

While it’s unlikely anyone outright tells them they can’t, we live in a society makes it harder for them to stay.

Women are still expected to shoulder the burden of housework and childcare, and to look after elderly parents and relatives.

But Jackie’s story shows us why we must challenge the systems that hold women back, and create space for them to keep doing what they love.

“I just absolutely love football. Until I can’t play anymore - that’s when I’ll stop.”
