Feel-good Hedgehog rescue story incoming... 🦔

"Me and my daughter Marlowe went along to a Coaley nature morning a couple of months ago and Paul mentioned there was a poorly hedgehog in the hedgehog house on the playing field. He had put the hedgehog there a few days earlier after he'd seen it walking about in the daytime and it didn't seem to have moved since he'd put it there.

We volunteered to drive the hedgehog over to Wild Hog Rescue near Frampton as we've been there before and knew they would take good care of it. We put the whole hedgehog house in my car so not to disturb the hedgehog, who Marlowe had named Rosie by this point.

When we got there we met Emily who runs the centre and she said Rosie seemed very poorly and her body wasn't in very good condition, but we could check back in a week. Thankfully when I emailed her the next week she said Rosie had perked up and was responding well to treatment for internal parasites - lungworm and capillaria.

About four weeks after we first took Rosie to Wild Hog rescue we were able to collect her and bring her home. We put her in a hedgehog house in our own garden, and set up a food and water station for her which we kept topped up for the first three weeks. We set up a wildlife camera in front of the hedgehog house so we could see her coming and going, and we're delighted to see her doing well.

We now see less of her at the food station, which we hope means she's found other food sources around the neighbourhood, but we know she's still about by the amount of hedgehog poo we keep finding in the garden!"

Sunshine, creativity, and a whole lot of wildlife love 💜

Last Saturday at CRAG - Coaley Recreation Action Group, kids (and adults!) got stuck in, planting sunflowers for biodiversity, making bird feeders, and crafting everything from woodland characters to bird nests.

Small, hands-on moments like these all add up, supporting nature now and in the months to come 🌻🐦

We’re proud to sponsor Coaley Recreation Action Group, and support days like this 🌱

A new report highlighted in The Guardian shows that more than half of Britain’s butterfly species are in decline. While some species are adapting well to warmer conditions, many habitat specialists are struggling due to habitat loss, pollution and wider environmental change.

There is some encouraging news too: where the right conservation work happens, butterflies can recover. It’s a powerful reminder that protecting wildlife-rich spaces really does matter.
