For clients seeking a more understated interpretation of damask, we often recommend silk and linen blends. The natural lustre of silk is softened by the texture of linen, creating a fabric with quiet elegance, depth and a beautiful handle.

This combination works particularly well in schemes where texture and craftsmanship are intended to speak more softly than pattern.

Developed in collaboration with an interior designer, this bespoke weave was created to complement a grasscloth wallcovering that could not be matched with an existing off the shelf fabric.

An open weave structure, cotton slub yarns and subtle silk colour blending were combined to echo the texture and tonal variation of the wallcovering.

Throughout development, each sample was reviewed under different lighting conditions to ensure the fabric responded beautifully throughout the day

Pattern isn't always the starting point for a fabric development.

Texture, fibre choice and tonal contrast can be just as effective in creating depth within an interior. From textured silk and wool bombazine qualities to subtle self-coloured wool damasks, each creates a different level of visual interest.

When developing bespoke colours, we look beyond the fabric itself. Light, surrounding finishes and the wider interior scheme all influence how a colour will be perceived. Gold remains a popular choice, ranging from rich jewel tones to soft buttery yellows and warm neutrals.

Our section warp allows us to explore multiple colour and weave combinations within a single blanket.

By combining standard warp colours with different wefts and weave structures, we can quickly evaluate options during the development process and narrow down the most successful directions.

Delightful to see the beautiful Company Cope, which was woven by ourselves, being used for the service for St James's Day.

Repost:
Each year, the Company marks St James’s Day with a special service at St James Garlickhythe, followed by Lunch and Common Hall at Vintners’ Hall.

In keeping with tradition, the Company Officers process to the church carrying posies — a custom dating back to a time when fragrant flowers were used to ward off the rather less pleasant smells of the City!

The Company Chaplain also wears the magnificent Company Cope, woven by Humphries Weaving.

A wonderful occasion bringing together the Company’s history, traditions and fellowship. 🌿⛪

We're often asked to adapt and customise designs; here we took our Rangers design and made some layout changes, turned it from a damask into a multi-colour 'tissue' and updated the yarns from pure silk to include viscose flax, cotton chenille and recycled lurex. The images show the graphic design, technical design and final fabric
