Wedding Dress alterations I started off my sewing journey as a military tailoress, learning all of the skills required to tailor a military uniform/suit/mess kit, to a very high standard. Also very experienced in medal mounting, both Swing mount and court mount, on full size medals and miniatures. After 7 years working in military tailoring, I wanted to broaden my horizons and expand my skills. In

2014 I went on a 'corset making course' with Thelma Madine - Dressmaker in Channel 4's Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, and have since returned on many occasions to help make their corsets during their busy periods. I now specialise in bridal alterations offering fittings and appointments from my home studio, as well as working with Harmony Brides Swindon to alter their stunning wedding gowns. Only YESTERDAY Hannah was competing in the World Championship of Irish Dancing 🤩👏🏽

Before alterations (pic 1) the dress was enormous on the body, and Hannah could probably fit an arm AND a leg down each sleeve 😵

Now it sculpts the body as it should.

Next stop.. the World Championships in April🤩👏🏽🥳 Best of luck Hannah!

Ahhh my first bride since returning is now MARRIED!!!🤩🤍 Massive congratulations Jordan and George 👏🏽 Wishing you both a lifetime of wedded bliss 🤩

What a whirlwind it was…

I recieved a message late one evening from a panicking Jordan.. she was getting married in less than 3 days and wasn’t happy with the alterations done elsewhere.. could I possibly take a look.

I wasn’t quite prepared for what arrived.. (I’ll probably do a post just on the alterations and some point) From the picture I’ve added: the panel at the back had been added but the zip was wonky and bulging, the fabric at the top stood away from the body, the cups were misaligned, the bust needed reshaping, the hemline was jagged, side seam alterations were wonky and lots more…

I could totally see why Jordan wasn’t happy, it was a bit of a mess 🥲

Anyway with a bit of patience and some sewing magic, I managed to get Jordan’s dress altered within the same day ready for the special day 🙂😮‍💨

Congratulations once again to beautiful bride Jordan.
(Those cookies were the best I’ve tasted🤤!!)

Hiiiii everyone! A little while ago I teased a bit of Sew It Fits update, and since then life has thrown in a VERY unexpected, super exciting U-Turn…..
I don’t want to get too deep into the negative Nancy side of it… but the couple of years during covid, lockdowns and National restrictions, followed by the ‘clean up’ operation of spending quite literally all day, everyday (through the night and weekends), on my own, sat at a sewing machine making sure deadlines for customers were met… really, really took its toll on me.

SO, on bit of a whim a little while ago, I threw caution to the wind and applied for a role in a completely new career: Entertainments Host, on a cruise ship…. only went and GOT THE JOB!!! 🤩

Sadly, this does mean Sew It Fits will NOT be taking on ANY WORK for the foreseeable future - unless anyone plans on coming to sea with me haha.
(If I still have your dress/ garment, don’t panic I’m not on my way to the port this very second 😁)

I don’t know ‘when’ or ‘if’ I’ll ever return to sewing, but for now I’m hanging up my tape measure, excited to ride this wave of adventure and see where it takes me.

Thank you to alllll of my wonderful brides, bridal parties and customers I’ve met over the years, it’s been a blast ❤️

Awww Libbie & Jon, Congratulations on your first wedding anniversary 🤍💍 You look like a real life princess 🤩

Genuinely feels like yesterday Libbie was here having her dress alterations 🤯

Can you believe that this dress started off totally strapless too? Well, Libbie loved the dress, but had visions of it with off of the shoulder lace sleeves, button fastenings at the top and a little keyhole back. A few fittings later, et viola! Now no one else in the world has a dress exactly like this 😍

🪡Repairs jobs🪡
Jeans: Worn away at the top of the inside leg. Now reinforced, patched up and ready to keep on wearing.

Beige trousers: You can see many of the seams were split open. Now repaired and sewn tightly. This is a straight forward repair for any seamstress/ tailor, so don’t immediately chuck them away 😊

Navy cords: Again, seam has split open. This required a little more attention as there was damage to the fabric. But still a straight forward repair for a seamstress or tailor 😊
