Sometimes tartan just gets it right.

I was looking through these photographs we had glenmorangiehouseofficial and realised how much I love seeing my MacFarlane tartan dress alongside Ann-Marie Rideout opera bag, both made in the same Lochcarron of Scotland Lochcarron tartan.

Annie has long been my trade stand mum, so there’s something rather lovely about seeing our work side by side. Different pieces, different makers, but the same tartan bringing everything together.

Now, Annie probably imagines her beautiful opera bags being used for glamorous essentials... whereas mine usually contains loo roll and hand sanitiser at bagpipe championships! 😂

What would you keep in yours? 🤨

Yesterday was our final day of intensive dress making…. I think even the sewing machines were tired!

The team did a fantastic effort making kilt skirts on the final day, nearly finishing them which is such Ana amazing achievement!!

It’s been such a pleasure working alongside this group of students! The improvement in their work has been truly amazing, and also their dedication to not quitting after a whole day of hemming (which probably felt like 2 weeks to them!).
It’s been brilliant to hopefully share a few skills and experience to show that you never know where your career might take you… maybe up a creative street!

Funny how these things happen.

I first met Jo behind Ginger and Teal Millinery at the Awards in 2024. We’d both received training bursaries and, being fellow Scottish makers, got chatting about our crafts, our businesses, and all the ideas we’d love to bring to life.

Fast forward to this year, and one of those ideas became reality.

This Isle of Skye tartan wrap dress has been paired with a matching handcrafted deer stalker hat and honestly, I couldn’t love it more.

Now, I know some of you might be wondering about the hat...

The answer is simple: because we can.

And because every time I look at it, I get serious Professor McGonagall energy. As a lifelong Harry Potter fan (yes see my leggins 🧙🏼‍♀️), there was absolutely no way I was passing up the chance to channel a little bit of Hogwarts in our latest photoshoot.

Sometimes the best collaborations come from meeting the right people, sharing a love of traditional craft, and being just the right amount of eccentric.

I hope you love this one as much as we do 🧙🏼‍♀️

The summer season is here again, I’ve only just recovered from the weekend of bagpipes at Scotland Tartan Parade, and it’s time to hit the A9 once again and head for the British Bagpipe Championship at the Royal Highland Centre on 30th May. Hopefully the sun will keep shining, so if you’d like to come and say hello or try anything on it’s the perfect opportunity ☀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A few folk have been asking where you can catch us this year, so I’ll share our exciting plans for the summer soon!

Here’s just a teaser from our photoshoot last week, we couldn’t resist a return to to witness their spectacular display of Bluebells, next year Colin has promised the Blue bells of Scotland on the pipes… 🤞🏼

I’ve had this gorgeous Selkirk tweed from for a while… it’s the first time I’ve worked with this cloth, and absolutely love the results of the Auld Scotland Kilt!

It was amazing to be part of the , Scotland and Northern Ireland Awards evening in Glasgow (), and delighted to be named runner up in the Start Up Category! It means so much to bring this home and hopefully inspire others in our Northern Highland communities (and sometimes just a bit of encouragement is needed to help me keep stitching through the nights!).

A big thankyou to Ann Flanagan, HSBC Commercial Banking and Colin Borland for the support shown to us all last night!
As it was a special night I thought I’d give one of my longer dresses a whirl, this one in the gorgeous Lindsay from (I didn’t realise I matched the colour theme of the evening!)

As it’s been such an amazing week of celebration here at Thistle and Cloth, we are continuing the party with a special promo, for the 10% off our dresses on the website use code “celebrate10”

What an awesome day out yesterday celebrating with 🏴❤️

Thank you so much for having us along and letting us be part of such a brilliant parade. The atmosphere all day was incredible — honestly a little overwhelming in the best way seeing so many amazing people lining the streets and cheering everyone on!

We loved every minute of it, from the parade itself to the party in the park afterwards… and of course the dancing later into the evening (I’ll do a separate video of the dancing as it totally deserves its on post!) 💃✨

Big thanks to the whole Thistle & Cloth squad .mclaggan .brownlie_design for making the day so special. Already counting down to next year!
