Sarah Fennell, Textile Designer

Sarah Fennell, Textile Designer Textile and paper goods designed by Sarah Fennell in her riverside studio in a converted tile factory at Maws Creative Spaces, Jackfield, Shropshire.

After graduating from Bath School of Art in 2015, Sarah set up a print studio in the heart of Wolverhampton and launched her eponymous brand shortly after. With a distinctive cut and paste aesthetic, she uses paper collage to form the basis of her ideas. These collages are then re-interpreted on fabric as large scale stencilled prints, or worked with digitally to create artwork for print. As well

as managing her studio, Sarah also works with brands to design fabric collections and prints for the commercial market, gives lectures to undergraduates on her studio practice and social media and regularly shows her work at markets and trade fairs.

Pre-orders are now open for gorgeous box-bottomed make up and wash bags!! There are 5 different fabric designs in the 2 sizes. With a oilcloth waterproof lining and gold toned chunky YKK zipper, I've been developing these babies for a while! All are available via my website, just click the link in my bio. Swipe to see the designs on offer 👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻

You are able to pre-order from now and over the weekend until 9am on Monday 27th of April. There are only 3 of each size and design to begin with to enable me to gauge demand.

I've decided to open up pre-orders to help reduce wastage of materials and unnecessary build up of materials in my home studio (my dining room!). I've never worked with a pre-order system before, but I hope you'll support me and share this with anyone you think might be in need of a pick me up!

Pre-orders will reopen once this batch is sewn up and off to my lovely customers, so don't worry if you miss out this time.

Fresh on the cutting table (read: kitchen table as I'm now working from home!). A new, as yet unnamed print, full to the brim with happy dogs: I tried to fit as many requested dogs in as possible and so it includes Dalmatians, wire haired daschunds (the most requested!) French bulldogs and whippets to name just a few. All frolicking happily in daffodils on a blue background. Thanks again to those who voted on background colour, blue was the runaway winner of the poll.

My next question: aside from being available by the metre, what products would you like to see this fabric being used in? Wash bags, make up bags? Lampshades? If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. If you have any dog obsessed friends you think would love this print, feel free to tag them below!

I know what you're thinking, where oh where have I been? (who am I kidding, you've not missed me!) The truth is, I've been incredibly busy building as a studio and creative workshop venue in Ironbridge with my business partner in crime, . Its been a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work!!

I've also been sourcing a new fabric supplier, designing and testing new designs for a brand new interiors fabric collection launching this summer. (There, I've said it. Now I've got to make it happen...)

I'm also in a good place mentally. The best I've been in a few years really, so things are looking bright. There's so much I want to tell you, but I've got to keep quiet for a little while longer at least.

Anyway, this also means that there's finally a supply of fabrics fresh in from the printers. Like this old favourite Daphne in the Mustard colourway, who has been missing from the cutting table for a long long time! So if you're interested in using my fabric for a project, or the lampshade you've wanted for ages seems to be permanently out of stock, get in touch and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks for sticking with me guys x

Our first workshop of the year is this Saturday and there's still a couple of spaces left if you fancy having a go!

Our first workshop of the year is this Saturday and there's still a couple of spaces left if you fancy having a go!

If you're looking for some gentle post Christmas therapy, what could be more relaxing than learning how to hand-bind your very own notebook or journal? The Japanese stab-stitch technique used to create these unique books is beautiful, methodical and the perfect way to ease yourself back into your usual routine.

We have just two places left on our Hand-bound Journal workshop this weekend, so you can still join us if you're quick.

Already thinking about next year's programme of workshops at The Bolthole 💭

Although we absolutely loved Christmas, we're already looking ahead to the New Year and have just launched our programme of Winter workshops.

Each one is structured as a 'taster' session to introduce you to a new craft or skill so you can dip your toe in and try as many as you like.

It's a great way of ticking off the 'must learn something new' resolution on your 2020 list.

Just message us for details or check out each individual event on this page and we'll do the rest.

Happy New Year

I had a feeling it was going to be a good day! Can every Friday end with a goat cuddle please?

You have got to be kidding!

A visit from two gorgeous 3-day old kids courtesy of Its Baaa-th Time!! brought the Maws courtyard to a standstill this afternoon. Even Sarah, our resident textile designer had to get in on the action and ‘kid’napped this cutie for cuddle.

Today I’m running a lampshade making workshop at to coincide with the work I’m exhibiting in the ‘Nearly Neon’ exhibition. We’ll be using hand cut paper stencils and printing medium to create bespoke lampshades. I’m equal parts excited and nervous (as usual), so wish me luck 🤞🏼
