Summer window.
Doing a new window is always pressured. Will I have enough stuff to put in there, what will the theme be, will it pack a punch and make people step on their brakes because they have to see whats in that shop, will the locals love it.
Well, every time it all seems to work out just so. Like a series of mini epiphanies, the creative mind takes over and voila. I like this one. It makes me happy. Print on print, colour on colour. It’s all happening.

The workbench.
This little area of the shop houses many practical bits and bobs all arranged neatly on top of this handmade beauty (see 2nd pic). The story behind the bench is often retold in the shop. Bought the week before we opened way back in 2012. It was spotted in the pouring rain sat beside one of the giant skips at the local tip and procured for the princely sum of £5. The best bargain ever. It must have been lovingly made by someone to perfectly fit their garden shed. It’s one of my top favourite things in the shop.

Our Christmas window by day.
Rustic simplicity and natural beauty. I love dried seed heads. These were gathered back in November. Sculptural and majestic they echo the hues of the gold, silver and copper baubles.

Had a lovely visit from Jo at Bazaar yesterday. When I first moved back to the UK in 2008 I used to help out at some of the shows. Made me want to be a shopkeeper. Learned lots of top tips from Jo. Have stood me in good stead over the past 10 years. Thank-you Jo. Sx

All good things.
It’s incredible just how many things we squeeze, cram and cajole into our tiny shop space. Anyone would think the shop was run by a Magpie.
That’s why we’ve restricted numbers to just 4 at a time over this festive period. We want you to feel comfortable whilst shopping and be able to really uncover all the hidden treasure. There’s a lot to see!
I’ll be in this Sunday too for our extra opening hours from 11-2. Hope to see some of you then.

Colourful Ribbons
Always there to brighten the day. And here with added sparkle. Our glitter velvet ribbon is always popular at this time of year. Great as the finishing touch on presents and so nice that the recipient is sure not to throw it away. Do you keep the ribbon from gifts (aka Ribbon Hoarder) and if so do you repurpose it in any way?

Well what a lovely welcome back to the shop today. Thank-you to all those kind souls who came by, shopped, checked in on me, gave me hugs. It was a really heartwarming and uplifting first day back.
Today is traditionally one of our busiest days of the year as Ticehurst switched on its Christmas lights. So great to see so many people out enjoying the village and all it has to offer.
I’ve forgotten how pretty the shop is at dusk, as the chill of the night creeps in. And here’s our very rustic Christmas window twinkling in the darkness. Simple but seasonal.
And don’t forget. We’re open every day now until Christmas.

Yup. We know it’s not so easy in our tiny shop to take your time when there’s a queue of people outside so we’ve added the extra days to make shopping a little more relaxed.

Patchwork.
We threw together an in between window last week whilst we ponder what to do for our Christmas one. I forgot to take pictures so some key elements have already sold but it still looks lovely with its giant patchwork quilt and patched Indian cushion covers. And if you love blue and white china there are lots of pieces on display ready for their new homes.
Saturday was one of the busiest days we’ve ever had in the shop so a big thank you to all of you who showed up and to for doing such a good job of holding the fort whilst I’m away.
This continued support is so crucial to us at this time and indeed going forward. Because go forward we must.

I know we’re a bit early but this year I’m throwing all caution to the wind and we have got Christmas out in the shop. We won’t be doing our Christmas window till the end of the month though.
Also. Thank-you so much for all the heartfelt messages, cards and flowers that have been sent. We’ve taken great comfort from this incredible blanket of support that you have extended towards myself and the kids. It means so much at this time. I’m still not quite ready to come back to work but I did spend the day today with Lucinda Bothwell Artworks trying to work out just how we were going to squeeze everything in. Almost there!
I hope you enjoy our offerings this year. And I look forward to seeing you soon.
