I was commissioned this A5 journal cover (with journal) a few months ago now. I didn't take many pictures of the process, and struggled for good lighting for photo's, but a just a few pics gives an idea.
The portrait is hand carved, tooled and hand painted and the leather kept natural to enhance the tooling. The leather will darken over time leaving a nice contrast.
I was a bit nervous painting this beautiful dog, but the customer is very happy with how it turned out. As am I.
Like all my work, it's fully hand saddle stitched with strong braided thread.

Not the nicest weather but it's nice to be back home in Tobermory. And I have my leather and tools with me 😁
Should be a fun year.

Another one of Santa's creations. My second youngest asked him for a green "Nya Nya" kitty belt with his name on. I like the font and the likeness isn't bad (but a little more cheeryπŸ˜‚).

There's something quite nice about untouched snow. Around 8" fell just last night. Last years tomato plants have stuck around for a wee dip.
I'm glad I made a snow plough for my 2 wheeled tractor 😊

My eldest two asked Santa for some pocket knives this Christmas. These were found under the tree with cool leather pouches to match, too.
It looks to me like the little elves have wet moulded the leather in a wood form to make a rigid case then hand dyed them in the custom colours they asked for. Even put their names on the knives. They've also hand stitched them and added a belt loop. Splended work. Thank you Santa and elves. My kids are super happy 😊

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all have a fun and relaxing time (and hopefully this man in red drops you a nice little something down the chimney). More from me in the new year. Best to all πŸŽ…

I randomly came across these pics earlier, taken in my Tobermory workshop around 6 years ago. My two oldest were about 2 and 4 years old here. How time flies!!
Unfortunately I don't have pics of what they made that day but they both really enjoyed it.
They're now both doing quite a bit of crafts; my wee girl's made quite a few leather collars with me (we made a video too) and makes lots of ceramic items. My wee boy handmakes and races wooden cars in regional competitions. They've got the bug it seems 😊

Just a quick snap at before and after sealing the wedges for a heavy dog collar dee ring. The wedges sit tight in either side, hand stitched around the dee, forming a thick wall for the dee to move around on. And to protect the stitching from rubbing off the dee. It also flattens the back out more.
(The other piece of leather sticking out is forming the keeper).
