Applications are still open for independent businesses, makers and community organisations whose work fits with reuse, repair, upcycling, vintage, circular design, reclaimed materials or other practical approaches to reducing waste.

Final exhibitor applications close on 10 September 2026.

Models wanted for the Green Runway

SFW Hub Torquay is inviting more people to apply to model in the Green Runway.

Applicants must be 18 or over. No professional modelling experience is required.

Model applications close on 15 September 2026.

Volunteers needed

The Hub is also looking for volunteers to help across the event weekend, including welcoming visitors, supporting exhibitors, assisting with the runway and backstage activity, and helping the weekend run smoothly.

🧵What a fantastic start to Minycled’s beginner sewing workshops!

A huge thank you to Ashleigh for joining my very first beginner sewing class. She brought along her own sewing machine and a project to make covers for some small cat platforms.

During the workshop, Ashleigh learned how to thread her sewing machine, wind and thread the bobbin, and choose the correct needle for her project. She was also introduced to the overlocker and my automatic sewing machine. By the end of the class, she was confidently using both!

The highlight of the day was seeing Ashleigh complete her project. As a foster carer for cats, she’ll now be able to make many more platform covers for the cats in her care. It’s always rewarding to see someone leave with new skills and a finished project.

Thank you, Ashleigh, for being part of Minycled’s very first sewing workshop. I can’t wait to see what you create next! 💚

A little shop update! ✨

Today I’m showing off my finished upcycled storage chest, which is now home to my fabric collection, along with a repurposed table that’s become storage for all my electrical equipment. I didn’t film that transformation, but I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

The back of the shop is finally looking much more organised after a lot of sorting, moving, painting and upcycling. If you saw yesterday’s post, you’ll know how much work has gone into it. If not, the full transformation video is over on TikTok.

Today was also the first day for my lovely work experience student, Isobel, from Torquay Girls’ Grammar School. She’ll be with me until Saturday and will also be returning later to support some sustainability work as part of her project portfolio.

I’ve been a little quieter than usual recently. Those who know, know. It’s been a challenging start to the year, but we’re getting there.

Finally, a gentle reminder to support independent businesses if you can. We only exist because customers choose to shop with us. When you spend with independents, you’re helping keep money in the local economy, supporting local jobs and helping small businesses continue serving their communities.

We noticed that most "creative" sewing classes for kids are just about making a mess with glue and felt. That’s not what we do.

Three Creative Mornings is for the young person who wants to sit down at a machine and actually understand how it works.

We teach them to sew properly, from the very first stitch, so they can walk away with the confidence to make, mend, and design their own style.
